NOT tooting my own horn, but...

Hi guys,
This is going to be an odd thread.
Was visiting my favorite LCS yesterday. Me and the owner has a fabulous relationship with each other.
Been a customer for quite sometime now.
She allows me to search through all her inventory. Her knowing I search for varieties. She even let's me go behind the counter. lol. I already told her, that if I ever should come across something BIG, I would tell her.
So, while rummaging through some Buffalo nickels, searching for mainly "2 Feather" varieties. I shockingly, came across the world famous,
"3 Legged!" YES! 1937d, in about a G6.
Probably still worth around $400-$500?
Without even hesitating, I told the owner, "Hey, did you know there was a 3 Legged Buffalo in your inventory rolls?"
She was very surprised more than me. Lol.
She thanked me deeply.
Just posting this to ask the question.
Do you guys have this kind of relationship with your dealers?
Thanks
;)

So what's the end of the story on the 37D? Did you get it at a discount or what?

No, Just handed it over to the owner.
Asking for a discount to purchase didn't even cross my mind.
I'd rather have a graded one, anyway.

I do. He has a Coin and Baseball card shop. I take things all the time to put on ebay for him. He does not keep track of anything. I would say, John I think this will sell good on ebay and he just says....ok take it. I research the past sales and we decide on a starting point. After it sells, I deduct all the fees and then he gives me a sales commission. I have a book I keep with anything I take from him and that list is good enough.

There is one dealer I know who will pull boxes from the back and leave me to go thru them on my own but I have never been behind the counter.

I wish there was a coin shop or two in this area. Certainly would enjoy building a relationship such as described above. Cheers, RickO

There are a few dealers who let me go through their boxes unsupervised. I consider it to be quite a privilege. Of course, I’m liable to find things to purchase, so it works out for them too. :)

A couple times when I was young, I corrected dealers on obvious mistakes on minor coins. One dealer had a 1931-D Mercury Dime priced at 70 cents. Another dealer had a 1970-S proof set, but it was a small date.

The shop I work at, we have select customers (friends) that we allow the same privileges. Many of you on here would be welcome in my shop the same.

We have some great people we see regularly and enjoy their visits! 👍
