@1630Boston.... Interesting... I wonder if he ever got any. Cheers, RickO
I'd imagine that they would have had to obtain "bright new coin" from your great-great-grandfather, ricko!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
@TomB .... I believe that is right....
Cheers, RickO
Sounds like the sort of guy @ricko would like.
I have to imagine what the "old" coins were; I bet they would be amazing to a collector today.
holy crap, the missive dated 1894, i could imagine.
well, sure, i'll take the stupid 10c, 25c, 50 ct bu unc civil war years with those pesky single letters on the reverses.
perhaps even some with the infamous CC but i really don't like those.
Was a reply to this letter located? Perhaps it encouraged the purchase of proof coinage from the mint by customers so interested. It would have been a good move the following year.

It would've been a hoot if he asked for "blast white" but I'm sure that wasn't the parlance of the day. Peace Roy

Cool. Very little change. What was the building that isn't there anymore? The courthouse? Is the text on it legible?
Edit: Never mind. Courthouse still there, bank made way for the front half of the other building.
