64 Kennedy Half w/ accented hair

I’m 99% sure my set has one and I have a few questions. First, am I correct that this is one? Second, does it carry any kind of premium? Third, as collectors, what would you folks do if you had it? Slab it? Have it graded? Or just leave it in the set?

As best as I can tell without removing it all of the ‘flaws’ are on the cellophane not the coin.

Yes it is. I’d just keep it The way it is. It does carry a premium. It’s need to be a deep cam for it to be a score.

I agree that this is the accented hair variety. However, even though they fetch more when sold, you end up funneling resources to the TPGs to get the coins in slabs and properly attributed. If it were mine, I would keep it raw.

Average grade for a 1964 half out of cello is going to be a 66.

Currently, a standard 1964 costs roughly $27 or so.

Accent Hairs in 66 go for around $95.

  • Thank you Tom. My proof sets were all bought for me by my Dad, this would be my second set.
I’d never consider selling a single one of them. But like anyone else, I’m still curious about the value of my stuff so if you don’t mind another question...
How much would you expect to pay for one of these =vs= a regular ‘64 proof half?

That is the AH Kennedy half. I have several that I have cherry picked in past years. I have purchased the entire set a few times for $20. Never sold one. Cheers, RickO

You can check out what known sales of these have gone for and compare the two varieties. The PCGS CoinFacts site has terrific information and I have linked the pages for the regular and AH varieties below-
