I'd guess it is part of the long-running scam based in the BST of folks reading the threads and boards and then attempting to con you out of your money using various names and email addresses.

It's a good idea to go into your profile setting and hide your e-mail by unchecking the box next to "Allow other members to see your email?"

Was it an actual email from this person, or an email from PCGS telling you that you had a message on the forum?

According to Ancestry.com, there were a few Hope Altons around.
