Obviously I am unable to see in hand... but from what I see I would not pursue this one further
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
It's one of the more common years for CC $5 But in my opinion it doesn't appear to be genuine as it doesn't match the coinfacts pics.
I want to see the reverse and obverse full pics (not moon shots).

Hard to tell if it's real or fake from those pics. If real, it looks cleaned and not original. Hard pass on this one. Suggest looking for one that has already been slabbed.

Not for me 🙂
I will see if I can get him to add some more pictures to this thread.

The pictures from far away look good.
But I don't think it is a US Mint product.
In the close-up pictures, note the uneven fields with odd texture and a few shallow depressions that have mint luster in them. Also, the texture of the field adjacent to the bust tip is abnormal.
The odd texture you mentioned reminds me of what I see fairly often on early copper coins that are environmentally damaged - not on gold coins.

The CC zoom in from coinfacts.
Most likely a Middle Eastern fake. Most were proper gold content and if you could buy it as a curiosity piece for melt or less might be worth a shot. Not for me though.

I would be asking myself why an uncirculated 1893-CC was being offered outside a major grading slab, and knowing I don't have the authentication skills, would pass.
As they say in Texas ...... El PASO.
I like CC gold, but would pass on that one. Stick to slabbed gold coins. If you are still in doubt, submit it. Cheers, RickO
It was just brought by so I can inspect it in person, there’s no doubt about my decision now:
