I’m always hesitant to update an OP for fear of the whole thread going poof.

Plus, wouldn’t the forum software automatically bring you to the most recent post anyways?

I have not had that one happen but have had some things that I just could not figure out 'what happened'.

Not necessarily. If twenty people posted after I looked at it and before the OPer gave the grade/update, and then 20 people posted after the grade is revealed or updated, the software will take me to the last one I looked at and I'd have to search thru 40 posts to find the grade/update.
