Heat / high temperature over a long period of time caused the toning. The pictures are not the greatest, but it looks like it might be a very beautiful coin. Let me know if it’s for sale.
That's a shame. Looks like it was a beautiful coin. Can you elaborate on how it was stored?
If you think it’s a beautiful coin, why is it a shame?

Thank you and I believe you’re correct. Where’s the slap myself on the head emoji?
Still, if that was the case, I don’t know how anyone could tell what it looked like previously, other than pretty much like every other one of that type.

The environment it was stored in likely caused the toning you see (as some have mentioned). The picture suggests it has nice color and you would get a nice premium for the coin compared to if it was a standard untoned version. So if you aren’t a fan of this look, I’d suggest selling and buying an untoned example (and you should end up ahead).

What happened @Timbuk3 ?
Let me see how I could possibly help you ❤️
Any idea what happened to this coin ??? 😳
My first thought is that it was exposed to sunlight and the holder trapped and magnified the heat. Standing by for other analysis. Peace Roy

They are known to tone and some pay a premium for them... So what's the problem?

Looks like exposure to heat, in some manner. Unusual to see that condition. No picture when I checked the certification number. Cheers, RickO

Does it have purple toning at certain angles? If so, I’ve had several gold in old green holders like that do the same. Cool coin.
High heat, baby.

I've had this experience as well. For some reason it is not (or at least was not) all that uncommon to find modern gold in OGH with this color.

Left in the backseat of your car in during a Texas summer? Looks like heat damage. RGDS!!!
