How does a person add coins to a retired registry set? Also, why is this allowed?

I saw that a few retired registry sets have been updated recently and I am curious how this is possible? Why is this allowed? I thought retiring a set closed it out but have since learned a participant can add new coins after the set is retired.

If you still own the coins, you can have them unretire the set and add more without an issue, then re-retire it.

If you dont own some of the coins and someone else has them registered in their set, your set will automatically lose those items and drop if you unretire it.

If PCGS changes the scoring for slots or a pop 1 becomes a pop2 etc, these slots will lose points. All effected sites will show the change.

Aspie, you might be able to get an idea of what is going on from the set rating column on the page with the ranked and listed sets. On your set that you have linked it would be the 65.44 number in blue. Hover the mouse over that number and it will give the date the set was retired (if it is retired). So if a newer date it could be as Human noted un-retired and then re-retired. If you click the number it will show revision history. For your set it has composite updated at the top (right column). This is indicating what db noted above or something similar. This page also shows the retired date at the top if retired.

By the way that is a lot of nickels. Good job. Keep it going.

My impression is that a retired set is simply one that's not actively competing for current registry rankings or prizes. Since the collector may still be collecting and adding coins to their collection, it only makes sense that they're still able to use the registry.

I don't use the PCGS registry for sets myself, but that does seem odd for a retired set to have new coins added to it.
