I'm seeing that Sarasota got walloped really hard...wonder how the NGC headquarters and folks made out?

They probably burned my comics for heat.
[Too soon?]
Peak wind gust for Sarasota was only 106mph, so I’m sure ngc’s bunker fortress made it through safe.
Not likely. They would be too hard to light if they're soaked by the flood waters.

All coins in their facility for grading at the time will carry the "Shipwreck" designation, or maybe a new designation "

Well, I do hope they were not in the major flood zone. That would be bad news for sooooo many collectors. Cheers, RickO
I'm actually surprised they haven't posted a status update to their main site yet.
Nothing since 2 days ago.
Status update? - probably be awhile.
I guess it’s a matter of an indefinite period of shutdown while the attorneys and insurance people sort out a go forward period strategy. Could take several months sort out?
What is the basis for your comment? Per the website “The CCG companies are headquartered in Sarasota, Florida, in modern buildings that are built to withstand hurricanes. The offices are located about 9 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico (east of Interstate 75) and are not in a flood zone. The buildings also have large, secure vaults to protect collectibles that are monitored 24/7.”
Their original statement indicated that they were getting out of Dodge and everyone would return when it's safe. Coins in house are secured in vaults that are monitored 24/7. They have a dozen of my coins there currently. A special label would be fun but I'd rather get a bump for coins that didn't need to float.
I would think that assuming "all is reasonably well" that they would post it on their website...nothing elaborate...just to keep submitters calm.
Obviously power is likely still out but assuming their server is up (which it is) any senior officer can remotely post an update.
There are a few thoughtless comments regarding the Ian Hurricane in Florida. Believe me, having lived in Central Florida, and now on the Northwest Coast (on water) it's no laughing matter. Folks have lost their homes and most possessions. Some, their lives. Let's not be flippant!!!
Several years ago, we had water within several feet of our home. Coins were the last thing on our minds.
Didn't know you collected comics.
BTW, my sister-in-law and family live in Sarasota and are Blessed to have survived with trees down in yard but no major damage to homes. No power, of course, but all are intact.

And if all senior officers lack power... or the ability to modify the website...
That's good news. A few days without power aren't the worst thing for most people.
I only recently got back into comics. I stumble into an old horror comic and decided to do a very short art (Amazing Adventures 1 to 6), then the collecting gene kicked in.
No one is making fun of the suffering. Humor has long been a way that people in foxholes deal with tragedy.
It will be awhile before they get things moving. Possibly weeks or months. This wasn’t exactly April showers. If the vault area flooded are the vaults water tight? What about heat and humidity damage to coins with AC out? Can you imagine the cleanup or even the smell. And that odor can ruin paper or permeate holders.
Website up? Any company workers are having to take care of their families, homes, flooded out cars. Plus deal with insurance adjusters. Plus power and system connections have to be restored. Rewiring and programming takes time.
I had a similar situation with a bank flooded by flood waters. It was months before people could get to SDB. Can’t see why this would be different considering the magnitude of a hurricane. Do you think the Mayor, city mgt worried about coins?
Speculation like this gets us nowhere. Odds are they're fine. NGC is barely in the yellow area here. Right off University parkway up top.
Red: It is unsafe and emergency services may not be available. There is extensive damage limiting travel, and access is limited to residents and business owners.
Yellow: Power is out and trees and power lines are down. Traffic lights may be out and there is potential damage to drinking and wastewater. Safety precautions are required, and travel should be limited to essential needs.
Green: There are no limiting factors, and it is safe for the general public.

Many workers probably hundreds of miles away after having to flee. Roads will need be cleared, repaired. If this just minor matter is NGC answering the phone? Any burger joints or clubs open in the green area?
It's the waffle houses you need to be thinking about.
My ex-house has been in that situation in 3 hurricanes and one heavy precipitation tropical storm. We left the gulf coast this year and no more stress for that.
The devastation from Ian I have thus seen first hand 4 times. It is terrible for all and it will take weeks to years to come back to normal.

Thank you. Facts instead of wild speculation. Such a novel concept.

One TPG is in a major flood area...and the other is in a major earthquake zone...
Maybe someplace nice and quiet in the middle of a dessert...maybe underground...would be better?!?
