Where did you find it?
PS what happened to your bandaged finger?

Heat damage
My guess is acid or fire, but it could also be a cast counterfeit. The edge might help tell the story.
Looks like heat damage.

Welcome, I hope you come across better coins
I work at a laundromat, so I see a lot of quarters lol, I stabbed myself on accident doing a post mortum on an led lightbulb.
Search all the quarters you come across, you never know, you may even find some silver coins.

Idk if heat damage would have caused both sides of the coin to puff out like that, and I'm sure it would have been melted more if it had been fire. The pitting, yeah I can see acid doing that. Either way it's an interesting coin.
How cool would that be if it were a counterfeit.

Heat: will weigh proper. Acid: will weigh lighter.

Sorry, just a spender either way.

Try the magnet test, see if it's phony right away.
