What is the appeal to sports betting?

I find sports betting to be a fascinating thing, but I've always wondered, what drives people to take such risks, what is the main reason for it, the money, beating the system, the rush, the action?

And it's fascinating the way some people prepare for their bets, the research they do before games, it reminds me of Ace Rothstein from the movie "Casino."

i'm going to answer this question as honestly as i can, because that's how i roll.

people are drawn toward making money with as little effort as humanly possible, and that's precisely the type of rush wagering provides. often times when i make a bet, i'm literally sitting on my ass, drinking a beer and watching it unfold. plus, i have this preconceived notion that i know a lot about sports. therefore, i've convinced myself that i'm fully prepared to assume the risk that comes with it.

but's here the thing. just when you think you know it all, you'll be humbled. it's not a matter of if, but when that will happen.

quick question. did anyone watch last night's tilt? if so, then you saw what happened on the final play of the game. crazy, but innocuous, right? well, that insanity deep in the Steelers' end of the field resulted in a number of sports bettors being on either the right or wrong side of a quasi-miracle.

bottom line: you make think you know it all, but don't fool yourself -- being a profitable gambler requires a ton of serendipity

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

I have always wondered the same as well. I understand that many get great enjoyment from gambling, I just have never felt the draw. I have never felt the desire to go to vegas, AC, Foxwoods, none of them. I guess it is because i am tighter than bark on a tree and i just couldnt stand the risk of losing.

Nothing that I can see, but I’m addicted to coins and political items. So I guess we all have our hobbies.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I know a few punters who like the bragging rights (crushed that triple or parlay) aspect of it and others who just like to be right about something.
