Suggestion for PCGS - Submission Details
As like many other submitters probably do, I go to PCGS.com every other day or so to check on the status of my submission, only to see that it is still in "Grading", as it has been for ~ 3 months.
My question/suggestion is: surely PCGS has the data in their systems to assign a "current spot in queue" number, kinda like a deli counter. If PCGS could tell me that I was 11,473th submission in line, I could at least extrapolate to a degree of certainty when my submission would be graded.
This could relieve a lot of anxiety across the board.
PCGS could even harness the feature to do some upselling. Lets say i was 10,340th in line because I am an economy submission, there could be a button to upgrade to "regular" submission and jump up to 5,244th in line for the low price of $10-$15 per coin.
Thoughts?

My goodness 3 months in grading. So what IS the problem ? Is it high volume, is it moderns or other bulk submissions. Is it no graders available ? No shipping people available ? No raw materials to slab them with ? There's a finite number of classics to slab right ? Rolling brownouts. C'mmon man Covid is over. Just what is the problem ?
Every other day or so! If only I had that much restraint
Too complex, would add cost, and wouldn't make your coins get graded any faster. Best is to train yourself not to check very often.

What's best is for our host to offer some type of explanation not for their customers to lower their expectations for on time grading per the company's posted time estimates 🙄
I dont think its complex or would add cost, aside from some initial developer time.
As I mentioned, assuredly they're working on a computerized priority list of submissions. Surely they can use that data to improve the submission page to give more granular status.
The problem would be the extra complaints when your economy order that is 11,000 in line suddenly falls to 12,000 because 1,000 new express orders came in and bumped you further back.
I would think the FIFO system, with the existing express capability, is the best method to maintain. Suggested options would add complexity to inventory maintenance and dissatisfaction to a segment of 'pushed back' customers. Additionally, prioritization in an overloaded system, will just create more backlog. Capacity is key to faster service. Cheers, RickO

this is a good idea but are you sure there is a "current spot in queue" ?
at times it seems like submissions are randomly pulled for grading today
That might seem like plausible information PCGS could assign and relay to a submitter, but it would change constantly as new submissions arrive. Depending on service level, you might be pushed back in line. It isn't as simple as the "deli counter" where your number 11,473 will never have anyone placed ahead.
I'm at 4 months on Monday. I quit checking. What is the point. Very disappointed. Might start my own "PCGS" type company, anyone with me?

I'm biting my lip pretty hard right now.

Oh that is bad
relax -- can't change the reality of 3 months to 6 months calandar if you use PCGS.
I have even heard of 9 month delays. My last 5 coin world submittal is in encapsulation after 3 Month wait.
You may be ok with unexplained delays but I am not.
Too many people slabbing bullion.
