Oh boy, look what I found.

Looking for a pair of boots in the closet and found back in the furthest corner a jar of cents. I looked through the top layer and 1991 was the latest date I could find. This has got to be at least 20 years ago or longer that I placed it there. Fun looking coming up. Probably several hundred cents there.

How cool if the OP discovered his jar is rare and worth several hundred?

I was thinking the same thing. People collect those jars! 😂 👍🏻

If I remember correctly that was an old coffee jar, maybe a JFG, but not sure.

1991 just happened to be lying on the top of the pile. I have no prior knowledge as to the true date range, but because of all the mentions of the jar, it makes me think it might not have been in the closet as long as I first said. I have a small collection of old jars pre wwll and I took this one out because of the lid missing. I'll find out in a couple of weeks when I get to go through them. Thanks all for your comments.

I live in the house I was born in and have never had a bundle of cash, so unless my grandfather had one that he hid before 1948 there is no point. lol

    Well, that’s cheap entertainment! :-)
This thread’s really making me feel OLD! Wait, I am pretty old!
That jar would have to be pre 1965 to get a fire out of me- 🤪
    1992 seems like yesterday!
My doctor told me I had the blood chemistry of a 20 year old just this morning- which helps.
Have at it and have fun!

I don't know what it takes for a jar to be worth something. I've had this one listed on ebay for years. I thought it was pretty nice. Of course, the cost of shipping is probably a deal breaker for an item like this anymore........Listed at 8 dollars something, but shipping is 13 something.

They used to bring big bucks, but not so much now. I've got quite a few, even some 2 qt Ball Jars. They were my grandparents so I'll keep my sanctity and let my son throw them away and feel bad about it. lol

When I was roughly 10 years old, my grandfather had me helping in his country store/gas station and he opened the old bronze cash register and pulled out a $50 gold piece and showed it to me. I will never forget it and then when he passed it was never seen again. Such is life.

I've got a 16# plastic pickle jar full of cents to go through someday. I feel sure that very few if any wheat cents will be in it as I started in the early 80's as my pocket change jar each day. But who knows about varieties.
