I didn't include Morgan because he played more years with the Astros.

That is true. But his time in Cincy was where he shined through the "Big Red Machine" years. Without him manning 2nd base those years would there have been a "Big Red Machine"? I guess it's debatable but in my opinion no.

I struggle to choose between Bench and Robinson, but Barry Larkin should probably at least be in the conversation as well.

Todd Tobias - Grateful Collector - I focus on autographed American Football League sets, Fleer & Topps, 1960-1969, and lacrosse cards.

Probably Bench as he played his whole career with the Reds.

I would go with Bench too since his whole career was with Reds.
If Frank Robinson played entire career with Reds would probably choose him.

The unaddressed question in these GOAT threads is who is eligible. Joe Morgan is the GOAT baseball player who ever played for the Reds, but (1) he played less than half his career there, and (2) he played all of his GOAT seasons there. Frank Robinson played more than half his career for the Reds but he had several of his GOAT seasons on the Orioles.

Personally - as in, you're not wrong if you want to use a difference standard - I think a GOAT for a team ought to have played most of his career for that team, and have had all, or almost all, of his GOAT seasons for that team. On that basis, I'll stick with Murray on the Orioles, and go with Bench for the Reds.

If we only count what the player did for the team at issue, then the Orioles GOAT becomes Ripken, and the Reds GOAT remains Bench.

If we use the looser standard, then Morgan becomes the Reds GOAT, and Robinson becomes the Orioles GOAT.

Musial is the GOAT Cardinal no matter which standard you use.

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

I have no problem with Bench even though F. Robinson seems to have drawn the shortest straw.

I think we need to use the tighter standard. Hard to consider Robinson, say, the greatest Red by what he did in Baltimore.

Very close between Bench, Rose, and Larkin. Surprising that Rijo has the 6th most WAR for a pitcher in a Reds uniform.

    I'm going with Bench.

F Robinson's career as a Reds player is enough for him to be considered

Yes. Absolutely. But there is absolutely no slight to Robinson to say that Rose did more in 1200 more games, and Bench and Larkin in 600 more. In just those ten years, Robinson is definitely top 5. IMO, that shows that he's very underrated.

I have Bench. Legitimate argument he is the GOAT catcher. played his entire career in Cinci

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
