I couldn't pass up the $18 National special but I didn't have any eligible cards in my sub pile. So I scrounged through my singles boxes and put together a random sub. Mostly modern FB, base rookies that weren't worth subbing at the higher prices.

The Yao is a pop 1.

Thanks. I know a lot of people think the standards are higher post COVID, however my experience is that the standards haven’t changed for modern or I have gotten better eyes as I get older (ha ha not likely!)

I don't know values on these modern cards. Any upcharges?

ndleo - if you haven't noticed grading is always harder now than it was in the past. I think I have been reading the same complaints about how tough the grading is "now" since I joined 15 years ago.

No upcharges. The value of these cards isn’t that high but they were just sitting in my stars box.

I have another sub at the $30 level. I will post those when I get them.

As for the standards, I had lively debates at the Burbank show about the grading standards. I think some of the complaints are from newer collectors. I mostly sub modern so I can’t comment if the vintage standards have changed.

I still pull a few modern PSA 8’s and even a few PSA 6’s on subs but for the most part, I think I have my sub “process” locked down for now. I did go through a lot of cards to find these 20.

You had 'lively debates' with dealers or the folks at the PSA table? Just curious who and how the debates went.

The debates happened with other collectors in the brutal line getting in and in the PSA/BGS line. BGS was doing great business with the Raw service. People were pulling cards and taking it BGS right away for RCR. Then they would submit the best cards.

Generally people think PSA has become tougher post COVID.

Just got grades back on a Vintage National $18 submittal (one to go).

About what I'd expect, but did finally get a 63 Aaron graded that I'd pulled out of another company's slab that had already been denied twice. First two times they sent it back with 'evidence of trimming' but this time it was graded. And the same grade as before (PSA 6).

My second sub just popped. I pulled a bunch of Trevor Lawrence from the Leaf I ripped. These are a little less than half of the Lawrences I pulled. The 9's are the "paper stock" cards, the rest are metal/chrome stock except for the 1990 Auto. The Stevenson should have been with the $18 sub but I forgot to include it.

1 GEM MINT 10 2021 Leaf Valiant Autographs TL1 Trevor Lawrence Orange Card
2 MINT 9 2021 Leaf Draft Xrc Autographs TL1 Trevor Lawrence Blue Card
3 GEM MINT 10 2021 Leaf Memories 1990 Autographs BATL1 Trevor Lawrence Card
4 MINT 9 2021 Leaf Memories 1990 Autographs BATL1 Trevor Lawrence Platinum Spectrum Card
5 MINT 9 2021 Leaf Pro Set Power Autographs TL1 Trevor Lawrence Card
6 GEM MINT 10 2021 Pro Set Metal 1989 Autographs Xrc Pro Set Prospect TL1 Trevor Lawrence Purple Wave Card
7 GEM MINT 10 2021 Pro Set Metal 1989 Autographs Xrc Pro Set Prospect TL1 Trevor Lawrence SP-Purple Crystals Card

I agree. It's just people having to justify why the new label should command a premium. Pretty good racket if you ask me. Create a standard, run it for a few years, claim to upgrade it and have you customers pay again just to repackage their already graded cards. Freaking genius.

Yup. They got me twice on my collection.
