Error Coin?

Anyone know if this is a mint error or if this quarter was damaged in circulation? I'm curious to know because I've tried to research similar coins and have not been able to find anything like it. Thanks in advance!

    It's only valued at 25 cents. It has an interesting rim. I would hang onto it.
