I think they're still in business (out of NJ)... https://www.sgrarecoins.com/ they set up at a lot of shows. Usually Sal, sometimes the kids. They also run a big eBay business.

Hit the show at about 10:15 this morning after a pleasant 100 mile drive. Only took about 90 minutes, guess I forgot how nice bay area freeways can be on a lazy weekend morning. Thankfully it's not gotten so populated that it's gridlock 24/7 like other giant metropolis's. Anyway, I digress...

Parking was easy enough and they had a parking validation machine near the check in desk before you even enter the show. It dropped the cost of parking to $5. The email coupon from Griffin Coins brought the admission down to $4 so, not considering gas, $9 to get in the show doesn't seem unreasonable. The hotel had, I think, 3 different restaurants and 1 coffee shop. Didn't hit any of them up but not because they didn't look acceptable. Had other food plans in the works.

I knew the show would be small but it was a bit smaller than what I had imagined it would be. I think 3 double sided rows, 1 single sided row and a couple tables in the back. It was still big enough to be worth the drive. Two dealers (don't recall names) had relatively good amounts of bullion silver and gold. Prices were nothing to write home about but they didn't seem to be trying to rip anyone off either. The coins far outnumbered the bars. It did seem to be all modern type bullion though, none of the fun vintage stuff that tends to make it home with me. Actually there were two old style big Engelhard 100oz'ers now that I think of it. The show had a healthy amount of raw inventory. A respectable amount of slabbed stuff but I do wish the ratio of modern to classic slabbed material weighed heavier on the classic side. Lot's of 21st and late 20th century stuff. There was a surprisingly good amount of slabbed classic gold but unfortunately not the 1 coin I was looking for of course.

Attendance seemed pretty darn good. There were several times I had to wait to get close to a coin case due to crowding. A couple dealers mentioned to me that there were more people at the show today than yesterday. It was mostly the old guy crowd with a couple kiddo's in the mix and just a few of the fairer persuasion. My snapshot of the demographics only consisted of about an hour of the show though so don't take that as gospel. An entire group of Lady Numismatists could have swarmed the place as soon as I left.

I managed to pick up two easy Ike proofs in 69DCAM that actually were DCAM for a reasonable price. I spent a bit too long considering a 1797 16 star H10¢ in a PCGS "repaired" slab. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the repair was and the coin had solid XF details with a pretty darn healthy and crusty eye appeal. I still couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on the $4.8K price tag. Damn those little bastards (the early ones I mean) are so expensive.

Overall it was a real pleasant experience and I had a good time. It was definitely fun to strap the loupe around the neck and walk aisles again. It's got me thinking about where the next local show will be lol. Me and a buddy hit up Kirk's Steakburgers on Bascom down near the San Jose/Campbell/Los Gatos area and it was friggin' excellent as always. Then we got super nachos at Taco Bravo across from the Pruneyard for a late night snack tonight :) I do love going back home every now and then. Born and raised there but have been out in the outskirts of the bay area for nearly 20 years now.

    Sorry for the novel...

Nice Ike’s and a great report. Good read. I did see the 100 oz Engelhard on the left side of the room but didn’t ask for a price. I did pick up about 60 oz’s of bullion in total. Most at $3 over spot.

Thanks for all the show reports. Looks like most folks had a good time.

There were plenty of opportunities to buy great coins at solid to underpriced levels. Just gotta have the skill set to evaluate and know where to look.

    Fun show.

I still can’t figure out why Witter Coin did not set up. America’s Coin Shop my ass.

    Collecting since 1976.

Seth - you have several opportunities for redemption (Sacramento and Walnut Creek) in the next month. Hope to see you there.
