Highlighting today's ridiculous pitching...Spencer Strider. Ever heard of him? Who do you have?

WHO? I am sure that is the first response of many. Who is Spencer Strider?

The pitching in MLB is absolutely filthy. I'm sure a lot of older guys don't know any of these players. I'm an exception as I amazed daily with the amount of pitching that is just downright filthy.

Spencer Strider hit 102.8 MPH this year to register the fastest pitch by a staring pitcher since 2008. He doesn't just throw hard. He puts the ball where he wants it and his filthy off speed stuff.

Whenever I hear people say, "hitters should just hit it against the shift," I chuckle, because it isn't easy to do that against stuff like this, and all of MLB is filled with guys like this now. Hitters didn't do it against Nolan Ryan either as they struck out left and right against him too....but now Nolan Ryan stuff is everywhere in MLB, but with better command, and equally filthy off speed pitches...and I love Nolan Ryan, so nothing against him.

It is equally amazing that the hitters are so good now that they also excel against this filthy stuff.

Instead of being in the camp of "get off my grass" we should be celebrating these ridiculous talents as much as we did in generations past.

Don;t forget that in 1985-1995 that generation of players were being scoffed at by older people from previous generations and so on and so on.

Time to lighten up Frances and celebrate these ridiculous talents.

Spencer Strider is AVERAGING 98.2 MPH on his fastball this year. In 114 IP Strider has struck out 174 batters and walked only 38. His ERA+ is 155.

Which pitcher do you wish to highlight? Fire away!

I understand what you're trying to say but my prediction for Strider is that he has about 3-4 years before he burns out due to injury. Also, he's a rookie which means there isn't much of a "book" on him. With technology what it is, MLB hitters will figure out how to approach him and his effectiveness will slip somewhat.

Brady Singer of the Royals certainly deserves a shout out.
I can't believe we actually have a good starting pitcher.

    9-4 win-loss record on a team 30 games under .500
    3.07 era.
4.25 strikeout-walk ratio which is absolutely thrilling for a Royals fan because
usually its a walkfest with some of our starting pitching.
    ERA + 133

I love these types of threads!!! The stars of the future speculation is always a good time. Sticking with the non obvious…

3 Josiah Gray (WAS) - He was part of the head scratching package that went for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner last summer; at just 24 and finishing up his first full season, he’s the key player returned in that deal and I expect him to be solid in the coming years. Clean thrower, plus aresenal and has the makeup to sustain it.

2 Hunter Brown (HOU) - There’s something to be said about being called up at this time of year for a winner and pitching this well. Just two starts but the minors pedigree for this 24 year old suggests it could be sustainable.

1 George Kirby (SEA) - Julio Rodriguez has gotten all the love in Seattle, but this kid has quietly been their most dependable rookie this year and an important part of why baseball is back in Seattle. He’s got really good stuff, is also 24, and looks poised to become a front line starter for the next decade.

    Who else?

I agree with 1951 wheaties, I enjoy these threads as well.
The main reason the baseball threads aren't getting much of a response is because
the NFL regular season just started.
