Useful grader comments on Kennedy

logger7logger7 Posts: 8,095 ✭✭✭✭✭

I went through a roll of 1967 Kennedy BU coins and found 3 that I thought had a shot at a gem grade.

These were useful comments by the ICG grader on why the three coins in a screen deal would not grade MS66:

Interesting.... Certainly useful to the owner.... Helps to understand what the grader holds important. Cheers, RickO

Imagine a voice activated process where a grader could comment while grading. This info would then be automatically transcribed into the TPG's database. For a fee, this info would be shared with the customer along with appropriate risk mitigation qualifiers to avoid litigation.

That's pretty cool. It reminds me of the process that folks like your MD might use to transcribe notes from an exam into a file. Alternatively, don't smartphones already allow folks to speak into them and they type out a text? It seems we may be there for limited use of this idea.

It would be great for the hobby, Tom. Imagine the educational benefits!

This would be amazing!! Imagine if this was added to not just coins that didn't pass, but all graded coins. The notes could be stored in a database along with the TrueView images. If you have a question on why a coin graded a certain way, you could just look it up. I know I have a coin that I purchased recently that would have benefitted tremendously from a service like this.

Definitely keep those examples with comments handy to help make a good judgement before the next submission.

They didn't charge me for those submissions which I appreciated as I would not have sent them if I had been. My assessment of them were that MS65 would do me no good, I separated out the best coins in the 20 coin roll that I got from a club member who had had it for decades. You would probably have to look through many rolls to find a potential 66 or higher.

What does Heavy Reed refer? The other two were self explanatory to a new guy like me but I’m scratching my head over that one. Thanks.

He means heavy reed marks above and on his ear from another coin.
