    Exceptional coin period.

Grading incused designs is always a challenge. Based on the obverse and the belief that it is the obverse that carries the grade... then 64 seems reasonable. I am not certain off hand how the 1909 stacks up to other dates in the series in terms of quality of the strike. There is some flatness at the highpoints otherwise I may have ventured a 65 opinion

Well, I was way off on the last incuse Indian.......

    Let's say MS64.

I have no experience with the incuse gold. I agree with the previous guesses of 64 and I might even go with a plus. Nice looking gold!

The images aren't very clear, but the obverse fields look busy beneath ERTY in LIBERTY and from 7:00 TO 8:00. And it appears that there are marks above the eagle's left-facing wing. Add to that ,the possibly-subdued luster and my guess is MS63, at best.

I’ll reveal in an hour or two…

    Great guesses so far. 👍

I have a 1909 D Five Dollar Indian... Raw.... so, looking at the image, and looking at my coin... I would guess MS63. Certainly would not be surprised at a 64. Cheers, RickO

I remember that coin, isn’t that one of your favorites?

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@asheland... Yes it is... Have had it for about thirty years.... picked it up at a coin show in Seattle. Just love that coin. Cheers, RickO

I'm not sure if that is all chatter in the fields or if some of it is on the holder, plus the mark on his jaw bone, additionally a slight weakness in strike at the head dress... 63 possible slider to 64 if the luster is good.

    Good guesses everybody!
The pictures aren’t the best, the chatter is minimal and luster is excellent!

Nice looking coin. It would have been much better to have taken and shown the video with the grade covered up, rather than shown the still images.

    Nice. B)
I just sent my rather-brown-ish 1912 MS63 $5 in for Restoration service. I just want it to get some of its gold luster back.

  • spyglassdesignspyglassdesign Posts: 1,634 ✭✭✭✭✭

I thought with good luster it could hit 64. My gut said 62 off the bat but I zoomed in and looked more and could see its potential.

Very nice coin. Would love to have one that nice some day!
