Toning which is better red or blue?

Seem like red is more desirable, not sure

In the past red looked better, anything changed?

I would think it would depend on the coin. It's all about the eye appeal. I've seen ugly red and ugly blues but I've also seen beautiful red and blues too.

    A bit of blue . . . .

Tough call. I like blue on coins myself, but red can be really striking as well!

Red and green. The Christmas colors. Best look IMHO. Mind you, nothing wrong with a eye-appealing blue toned example either.

I have no preference as long as each looks nice.
Here’s both blue and red together on 1 coin.

I like when the toning is light enough for the luster/reflective surface to still blaze through and the color(s) easily recognized. Probably like magenta the best.

They're both nice... as are all the individual colors of the rainbow. Just get a coin with nice toning and you should be happy...

    Why not both?

Blue is fairly common on toned coins, NT or AT.

True red color is pretty much non-existent, all the posted examples are various shades of orange, pink or even purple,

I like all colors but I have to say I’m partial to green.

This one I bought at the Denver Coin Expo earlier this year.

It's pretty much half red/ruby with a hint of purple and half deep blue with a sorta white reverse...soooo red white and blue!
I loved it immediately. We made a trade :)

These are the snapshots at the show when I bought it

I like this type of red on toned coins

But these kinds of red can be AT. These are from my old AT educational experiments/displays. To get this kind of Red it requires certain chemicals deposited in a certain way and isn’t easy or common for AT.

I like blues too, especially like this

Other types of blues can be either NT or AT and you never really know. But the more purplish, the more suspicious.
Like these AT ones, from my old AT educational experiments/displays

And this is the same coin with the pictures taken during the AT process. You can see the red and blue stages. The process can be stopped at whatever color you want, but the reds are always purplish and the blues tend to have at least some purple with this easy common AT method. It’s the most common method, but the people doing it and selling on eBay usually don’t know how to control it like this and it comes out splotchy and a mix of these colors, but always the same unnatural progression. Some Naturally Toned coins can have these same colors, that’s the problem, and why Questional Color makes sense when the graders can’t tell for sure.

Here are the better snapshots I took at the Denver Coin Expo this year when I got this...I love both reds and the blues in toning and drooled a bit when I saw this one. It's got some beautiful yellows and wonderful baby blues on the reverse too... It's actually headed to our host shortly
