Imagine if we had a Mint in Chicago?
Well, it almost happened, twice!
Anyone find the congressional bill(s)?
Here's some info:
Numismatic News said:
Did they try to get a mint at Chicago? At least two concerted efforts were made to secure a mint for the Windy City. The first was made in 1896 but was unsuccessful. Representative Frank Annunzio introduced a Chicago Mint bill in 1972, but the remodeling of the San Francisco Mint scuttled the proposal.

Here's another article from the New York TImes on January 30, 1875.

If Chicago had a Mint then we could have two reused mintmarks.
Here's a good book by E. W. Blatchford (Eliphalet Wickes) (1826-1914)
Report of a committee of the Board of Trade, Chicago, on the question of the advantages of that city as a location for a branch mint, for the refining and coinage of silver and gold. November, 1875. (Chicago : Knight & Leonard, 1875)

It starts with the following:

@Zoins... The mint mark for Chicago could be WC... Windy City.... That would make it truly unique. Cheers, RickO
