The repair is not too obnoxious but it has been polished half to death...

At one time many years ago, chop marks were considered to be damage. Coin doctors at the time would take high grade Trade Dollars with one or two chop marks and repair them by removing the chop marks by tooling and smoothing them off the coins. This may be an example of this practice.

Well, duh....to show I can hit the post button before asking the question......
I had intended to get thoughts on authenticity. I was browsing and came across this one and then several others that had COPY stamped in the area that has been repaired. I was wondering if this was a copy.
Trying to get a handle on it but @PerryHall might be on to something. I'm also trying to come to grips with why this coin still has fantastic detail after that atrocious whiz/polish job. I'm debating whether or not it's genuine.

That was my original point. It just looks too good to be real after being that polished up.
I contacted the seller. He replied thoroughly, telling me that he had shown the coin to a number of experienced numismatists, who opined that the coin was genuine. He sounded extremely conscientious and believable.

That is a good thing but having looked at what he sells, it appears that coins are not his specialty. He should make mention of having had it checked out in the description along with noting the polish job and possible scratch/damage repair in the field.

The description includes:
"There was a repair to the left of Liberty's knee(probably scratch removal?) and a wipe with a jeweler's cloth"

Yes, I read the description. Perhaps Instead of "along with" I should have said "in addition to".

What’s your reason for posting it?

Seems all above board...this is from the description:

That was my thought as well, other than that the seller’s name sounds a bit “shady”.

It is circulated. what is your point?
Seems like an accurate description. I'm not sure what the o.p. is getting at?
It has been relisted.... so sale fell through I guess. Cheers, RickO

I truly saw nothing wrong with the auction. Buyer described coin and hid nothing I could see.

Wasn't planning on buying that one....doesn't fit the theme of my 7070. I just thought it looked a little fishy.
