Some of the cards don't have the best "eye appeal" but I like them anyway.

1999 Topps Tek Gold

This is a personal favorite of mine. It is probably the one card in my youth that
started my love for collecting baseball cards.
Why? Stories are great!
I’m enjoying the list…
(I wonder in the current card market how many designers say out loud … omg I hate that design… and it goes out anyway?)
Thanks for sharing!

Wow, That's kind of a long story. First of all, I am an old fart and first got interested in
sports in the mid to late 1960's. Living in Western Washington at that time the nearest
teams I could root for were the 49ers and Giants. (Explains my life long hatred of the
Cowboys and Dodgers) We were lucky when we were able to pick up their games on
the radio at night.
One summer my family was visiting my moms side of the family on the eastern side of
the state. One of my cousins was showing me his card collection. At the time while I
was kind of familiar with Topps, he had baseball coins, cards from cereal boxes, baseball
stamps, and cards from some company I never heard of called Fleer. I was immediately
fascinated. Then I came across the 1957 Topps Dusty Rhodes.
I had known the Giants had come from New York but this was the first time I had ever
seen a New York Giants baseball card. I thought the design of the set itself was beautiful.
This one card sent my interest in baseball and baseball cards into overdrive. Why did the
Giants move from the biggest market in the US? Why would people named Rhodes name
their son Dusty? Why was a power hitting World Series hero just a part time player?
Where could I get more baseball cards?
Unfortunately for my wallet I soon found out.
Not sure what you are looking for in eye appeal, but those are some beauties!
Bringing the heat. Nice!
