Smithsonian 10 oz silver peace dollar??

I was not aware these existed - apparently the reverse was the original proposed design… too bad that one didn’t stick, I like it.
The coins are NCG certified (??) and I’m just trying to learn more about these. I’d love to own one but at that price I can get a really nice 27S - I mean a really nice one!
Anyone familiar with these? Would you own one? They apparently minted only 499 of them.

For 5500 could buy a nice example of just about any year in peace dollars…
It looks beautiful! The Smithsonian has come a long way with their tributes.
I like to know the people behind the pieces and my guess is that they are still working with Bill Gale on these.

Very cooool!
Thank you for sharing and yes I would love to have one too.
“… the reverse was the original proposed design”
I don’t think that’s an accurate statement.
It's one of de Francisci's two submitted reverse designs.

I'm guessing these fantasy coins or medals will be available on the secondary market in a couple years for much closer to melt value.

It has similarities to deFrancisi’s design, but it’s not all that close (either the obverse or the reverse). IMO, his rendition was much nicer. Something about the proportions is off.
While the Smithsonian reverse may have some differences from the plaster, it seems to be as close to the original drawing as the plaster.
And it's certainly closer to this design than any other eagle design I've seen.
I think that it’s a Weinman design he proposed. They finally used it for the reverse of the Palladium coins.
It's close to Weinman's design used on the Palladium coins, but also has some fairly significant differences. The Palladium coins use the reverse from Weinman's 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse.
Here's the Palladium coin to compare:
That is one beautiful chunk of silver. Not that I will buy one... but sure nice to look at. Cheers, RickO
I agree it is a nice looking coin - but too rich for my blood. In the end it is not a rare coin, but a 5500 dollar 10oz bullion round. But it is really nice to see that obverse design. Maybe Dan Carr could make a one ounce example - I would buy that!!

$5500, where does that price originate?
i was wondering as well. when looking for full images, i saw prices all over the board but none as high as that though i didn't look long. i think the lowest was under 500 and the highest was over 2500.
edited to add:
since i posted, may as well throw this out there. i saw something about 2 proposed designs but i think it would be a bit higher, unless some of the designs i've seen were not actually proposed. the broken sword rev being one of the ones i am thinking of.
The seller was asking 5500 for the one in the pic - straight from eBay
