Inexpensive Impulse Buy

I have my slabbed coins and then some misc low grade coins just in flips in pocket pages I keep in a binder. While I have been shrinking my collection I actually didn't have a Barber half. I have dimes and quarters but no halves and came across this for $16.50. It's too low of a grade and not worthy of getting slabbed but wasn't a hurt on the wallet so just bought it. My father was the Barber half collector so that was probably one of the subconscious drivers behind the purchase. Just to remember him.

Nice problem free circulated coin! Barber halves are my favorite series to buy circulated.

I love going into my LCS and checking the junk silver. Every one in a while I find some VG-F SLQ’s, Barber 10C, 25C and Half’s. I feel like I won when I find some nice stuff.

I've got a few cheap just for the heck of it because it's different coins. I'm focused on studying Morgan's and seated liberties at the moment but I do have one cheap barber too. I like that you tied it back to your father too... The subconscious mind is a very powerful thing!

I think they changed the hub that year, so look at the details on the grade, not just the "LIBERTY".

Correct. If you glance at the David Lawrence book on Barber halves there is a very clear explanation of 09-P halves having a stronger Liberty than the overall grade of the coin. With that said it's a nice buy at that price. Enjoy.
