Rewound to 2018
I was offered a glowing 1955/55 DDO AU58RD for $1,675 and did not pull the trigger.

Thought it was a lot of pennies 4yrs ago 🤔 and it’s been one of my coin regrets ever since.
They are very elusive now especially for my ideals at >3K

Fast forward to 2022
I decided to avoid the same predicament …… of course unparalleled in a sense of rarity/value but I could just see the similar “would’ve could’ve should’ve”

❤️ so Here it is my poor girl DDO

~ Prominent DOUBLING
~ Blasting RED 🥰
~ Spot Free
~ CAC green beaned
~ Classic Old Fatty slab
~ Perfect price tag for the eye appeal’s

Excellent get. Hits on all cylinders. I could study that cent all day. No spots are important IMO. Peace Roy

    Nice one!
I’ll guess 65 red, since it’s in an old conservative fatty holder.

MS 66 RD …looks nice and glad you were able to pick up a solid coin!

@Paradisefound ... Very nice DDO cent.... I will guess 65, but the pictures are a tad dark, so could be a 66.... Either way, looks great. Cheers, RickO

    64....super nice addition.... B)

  • DCWDCW Posts: 6,749 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks very clean, but I'm guessing NGC MS65RD.

With better pics, it could well be 66-67...but then you are talking $$$.

    Congrats on the new purchase!

Obverse pic is a bit rough for guessing... I'll take a stab at MS64RD.

I like it, very beautiful Red Doubled Die in old stable holder.
Now I'm wondering the Generation now (Gold embossed reverse??)
MS65 CAC Green NGC 3.0 is my guess and congrats on the great coin!

It's all about what the people want...

Mine is in a newer PCGS holder at MS66RD CAC. As best I can tell they look identical. Since yours is in a older holder I don't think it could be higher than 66RD. Also, there is a really big value jump from 66 to 67 and I don't think most folks would want to do that. Because of the holder I will say 65RD, otherwise I would have said 66RD.

  • Batman23Batman23 Posts: 4,991 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would guess MS65RD based on the obverse pic. The reverse pic is clearer and I could see it going MS66RD. Overall I'm staying with MS65RD as my guess. Either way it is a looking cent in a nice old stable holder. Congrats on picking up a nice looking DDO!

65RD*. My 72 DDO is PCGS OGH MS-64 RD.

This DDO is usually seen with a lot of bag marks, and the reverse does not come blazing red like a lot of other "blazers".

Hence mine got the 64, but yours looks real good PF. It's pretty much mark free obversewise. That in itself is a real plus.

Seems like the 72DDO, even with substantial doubling, has always been in the shadows of "the big guy" 55.

Congrats on an excellent coin. I will guess 65RB. It may be Red and the pictures could just be dark giving the coin the Red-Brown appearance. Either way it is a great looking piece.

I’d venture a guess, but the obverse pic is just a bit too dark for me to be accurate

I'm glad you got one. A nice one, at that. The DDOs are a favorite. Reading your initial post reminded me of a thread I read earlier today, regarding the question : " should I buy this" ? I didn't answer yes or no.
My answer was "don't should on yourself".

Thanks for reinforcing it with that '55 ddo tale. Link of the day. This and that thread. Same moral to the story.
