Are OGH/Rattler PCGS Ikes getting more and more expensive for a reason?

I was surprised at the closing on this standard proof Ike:

Perhaps I am the one that is out of touch, and this is the beginning of the new norm.

The Instagram crowd is crazy for rattlers. Don't know if that is an indicator to support a trend.

Interesting question... I am more inclined to believe it is about the surviving population of Ike dollars in rattler holders. Should there be 10-20 collectors that seek an entire set in a rattler holder... well... there could be a problem and you posted exhibit #A

There is at least one person (and maybe more) on Instagram trying to put together an Ike set in rattlers. So that could be part of the reason for this result. In general, older holders have increased in price significantly. The more scarce ones (like NGC 2.0/2.1) went from being in the $200s (circa 2017-2018) to well over $1,000 (I'm seeing some even break $2,000) nowadays (and this is for slabs that hold $50-$150 coins if it was a modern slab). I believe some of the high results on the rarer holders has inspired others to buy up the rest of the old holders (even though these were previously considered common).

Wow... the slab market has some hot segments. I do not recall any of my Ike's in rattlers... will have to check. Those are significant premiums. Cheers, RickO

Plastic rules in some segments of the coin market.
