I must be getting old...

4-5 months ago I bought this set of Lincolns off eBay for $42 hoping the 1955 DOUB slot had an actual '55 DDO. Slim odds, sure, but hey, worth a shot.

Get the set in hand, and the '55 DDO is just a poor mans DDO, so I toss it into my closet and forget about it.

I'm liquidating a lot of my random chaff right now, so I'm cleaning out my closet today, pull it out, stare at it for a minute trying to figure out what to do with it. I settle on just giving it to a local dealer to do whatever he wants with, when the bottom left corner catches my eye.

"1972 DOUB" Wait, what? I didn't check for that.

Yes, there was a coin there...

Sure enough, it's a 72 DDO.

And that's the story of how I almost gave away a '72 DDO for nothing. Somebody put me out to pasture please.

    I don't know - "There was a coin there" ? Why the finger over the empty hole? Thinking your gonna get a 55 DDO for 42$? Where did that 72 DDO come from as it wasn't shown in the folder? Smelling something and it Ain't what the Rrock is cooking - :D

    It was there. The listing is from back in march so it and the high res pics are long gone but here's a quick screenshot of the listing in my purchase history, obviously I've redacted the item number and seller name. You can see the coin in the appropriate hole in the pics.

    I tried taking the thumbnail from my order history and blowing it up a bit too.

    Yeah, for sure, that was part of my justification for gambling on it. It's just tough to ship and not in great shape, needs a cleaning. Not something I have time to deal with right now, I have accumulated way, way, way too much random stuff in my years flipping.

    Looked for other varieties (such as the 69-S ddo) that I know of off the top of my head and didn't see anything.

    Nice score. I felt that way about finding a 46 DDR Walker (graded PCGS 64) in a Whitman folder I stashed for 2 years. I was not going to fire sale it to a dealer though ;)
