Vin Scully passed away a few minutes ago. Certainly would be #1 on a Sports Announcers Mt. Rushmore.
The first time I really heard him on a Dodgers broadcast, I could not believe it: he was play by play and analyst and storyteller all in one. The greatest Baseball announcer of all time.

I actually learned more about baseball by listening to him on the radio, when watching games on TV!!

a fantastic announcer for sure. I preferred jack buck, but it is a case of 1A and 1B for me.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
RIP to an absolute legend of his industry.
I was a Dodger fan from probably around 1960(?)-1988.
Listening to Scully on my transistor radio as a kid was just.....well....wonderful. Yes, he was a good announcer but in all fairness, he was part of a team. A broadcasting duo. His partner was Jerry Doggett. I think from 1956-1987. Doggett was always second banana to Scully. But, in my opinion, it was the two of them working together that made Scully what he was. They were a team. Doggett left in 1987 and after that I just drifted away from the Dodgers.....Listening to the games just didn't have that old magic anymore without him....He was my favorite baseball announcer, ever. Scully got all the accolades and Doggett handled it like a pro. Yes, Scully was good.....but he was at his best when he was part of the Scully/Doggett show. Doggett never got the recognition he deserved.... Oh, well......long ago........R.I.P. Vinny.
Great childhood memories listening to You and Jerry! What a team!😪
One of the best - RIP!

So what would be his most famous call? When Kirk Gibson hit that famous 1988 World Series home run off Mariano Rive...eh I mean Dennis Eckersley? Or on the other side of the coin, the 1986 Bill Buckner moment? There ya go, one of each...a hero moment and a goat (old fashioned kind) moment.
Oh wow; I forgot that he called Hank Aaron's 715th! Well, not as famous as Milo Hamilton's call but still...

Frank Howard's monumental home run off Whitey Ford at Yankee Stadium in the 1963 World Series.

He learned his craft well, mainly because he actually talked about what was happening on the field,
not where he was going for dinner or how his golf game was going, etc. like today's announcers.
He will be missed.
Yes, I hate the Dodgers, but I have to admit that he was a great announcer well into old age.
Hate is such a strong word though...unless you're a Giants fan then I guess you're supposed to hate the Dodgers, at least in the sports rivalry sense.

Nope Phillies fan. The Dodgers always have more money and better management. That makes baseball boring and fun for you.
I also became a Red Sox fan. You guys could pay Mookie Wilson $10 zillion dollars for ten centuries which also makes baseball boring.
I would've thought the Pirates would be your biggest rival...

What’s to hate about Pittsburg? They are a smaller market team that loses their good players to free agency on regular basis.
I remember how happy I was, as kid baseball fan, when the Pirates beat the big, bad Yankees in the 1960 World Series.
