if i only knew, i would have?

I had bags of wheat pennies that where rolled and had not been through for errors. so like 5 years ago i was moving and so i cashed them in to the bank for face value. At the time i didnt know anything about coin collecting other than keep silver. I had no clue errors where worth anything.
Fast forward, it has been 6 months since I was educated on errors and key dates/mint coins. I bought from ebay and other sources the very same type of pennies, smacking my head to how much I am paying for them. The only good thing I did do was keep the bu rolls from 60, 70s and quite a few silver. It was handed down to me from a store that we owned. Today, ill will never miss mint issues on new coinage that i like to collect. I wish I would of did this back then.

submit, everything, immediately PCGS and CAC. - i don't recommend for everyone, just based on what i've found since i started in numis. i would have added fantastic, very scarce coins to my SDB and probably wasted a few thousand bucks on various fees BUT made easily 10x that back. keep all my discovery/first reported coins and first graded by TPGs.
stacked HEAVILY on r5 marriages and scarcer across all early us type, graded or not but especially graded. stack tough pre-civil war gold issues, all denoms.
go on treasure hunts above and below water, wherever the trail would lead.
If I only knew, I would have. Not "would of".
Hope that helps...

@ozzy... Welcome aboard. Yep, such things happen... Let it go and look to the future. No room in life for such minor regrets. Go forward, have fun and enjoy the hobby. Cheers, RickO

I would have filled boxes with coins like fugios and early copper. Perhaps even paper, since no one wanted that in the 80's.......
I wouldn't worry too much about your wheat cents. Yes, they're worth more than face, but not by much. At 35 pounds a bag, they're a pain in the rear. The only real variety worth a darn, besides better dates, is the 55/55.
Bought every GSA CC slab available at Macy's Herald Square coin counter back in the early 1980s...practically for $75-$100 for every date...or maybe a bit more for some...before coin populations were truly known!
I have one particular vivid memory of buying one or two and handing back another dozen perfectly nice examples...ugh!
And Part II...
...asked my wife to marry me sooner!

One of my local B&Ms that is now LONG gone (there were A LOT more back then) had two ungraded GSAs for $150 each. This was the mid 1990s. He had an 1880 CC and an 1881 CC. Both looked superb. I bought the 1881 CC but not the 1880 CC. Always regretted that........

That’s definitely one of my pet peeves too👍👍👍
A local coin shop owner proudly showed me his virtually perfect GSA CC dollar. He was so proud of the coin that it made me afraid to ask for fear of rejection (coin not for sale) and/or I would not be able to afford it. It was in the early 90s. I should have at least (politely) asked
