The Mahal Collection strikes again, and again, and again…

From JustHavingFun’s extensive “The Mahal Collection”, probably the only coin “Struck 100 Times”.

I would love to know how they figured out that was struck 100 times!
ditto, you beat me to it.

Looks like 99 times to me.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
When you do it intentionally you just have to count.
i don't know what number i would land on but it was struck dozens of times for sure.
Oh my gosh, I'd love to own that coin.

That particular coin last appeared for public sale about 16 years ago where it realized over $2,100.
“Multiply Struck Gem 1998-P Nickel
1998-P 5C Jefferson Nickel--Struck 100 Times--MS65 ANACS. The planchet feeding and ejection mechanism apparently became inoperative with the present piece between the dies. Repeatedly struck, a partial collar restrained the left border, while the right border was not impeded by the collar after the initial strike, and metal flowed gradually in that direction between strikes. LIBERTY, the date, the mintmark, UNUM, AMERICA, and the right edge of Monticello all have a stretched and illegible appearance as a result. The 19 in the date is obvious; the final two digits of the date and the mintmark cannot be confirmed. Lustrous with light golden-brown and steel-blue toning.”

It would be like counting tree rings.
They had to count them all. Now they know how many strikes it takes to fill the slabbed Mahal.

With an electron microscope????
I remember a Turban Head $10 that came through ANACS that got its first strike as a full brockage reverse that was then deliberately given 6 more strikes to obliterate the brockage. With a scope I could clearly count 7 obverse strikes and 6 reverse strikes, but I can’t imagine counting 100 strikes.
This coin appears to have Full Steps (even though this is not noted on the label).
If it did not have Full Steps its value would be significantly less
Maybe they borrowed Laura’s neutron microscope.
Nice Beatles reference!
I am very happy it was not MY job to count the strikes.... That would be enough to send me out for a liquid lunch. Several hydraulic sandwiches.
Cheers, RickO
Whew glad it was done back then as young graders today with common core math would have to take their socks off to count that high.
You win the internet @seanq !
Hilarious 😂
