1879 shield nickel, how will it grade?

A pick up today, how would you grade? I'm thinking fair as the elusive Poor1 grade is hard to get.

Liberty nickel?
Corrected
How did you determine the date?
An authorized PCGS dealer, and a contributor to the Red Book.
Pictures are poor; dealer I got it from is accurate usually. You can see the top of "1879".

Fair 2. There was a time when coins like that could be found in local dealer's junk boxes. I wonder how many dealers have such boxes today?
True. So few!
Fair
Looks like a 'fair'.... There is a collector niche for coins like this. Cheers, RickO
I tried to research these in auction archives, nothing under AG3.
I ran the coin through ICG. No decision.
Neither PCGS nor NGC have any 1879 Liberty nickels graded fair or poor 1.
I saw this one AG on HA: https://coins.ha.com/itm/shield-nickels/nickels/1879-5c-ag3-pcgs-pcgs-population-3-224-ngc-census-1-93-cdn-300-whsle-bid-for-ngc-pcgs-ag3-mintage-25-900/a/132049-21104.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
Isn't there some high tech way to get the coin's date nailed down?
Tough call... I think a 1 is plausible give the obverse wear and the near inability to identify the date
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Do the grading services ever use non-visual technology on tough coins?
I agree Fr2. Not many dealers have the junk boxes like they used to have I feel partially due to the bragging of the cherry picking that went on for years on various forums and some even named names. Also, many books came out listing many of the varieties and their values, made many dealers decide to get educated.

With that much wear the top of the 79 could easily be the top of a 73. Just saying.
Is low a new High 🤔
Are you sure that it is an 1879? Sometimes die markers come into play, but, I do not know if there are any die markers for 1879 shield nickels. Partial dates are speculative a lot of times. A close-up of the date area would be helpful.
I don't know what other date it could be as the "7" is clear and the last digit has an enclosed number, sure looks like a "9" to me. What are the rules on poor 1s and fair 2s on the date?
I sent it in again to ICG after getting a no decision the first time. This time around it got a fair 2, but as an 1872!
There are no poor 1 or fair 2 graded liberty nickels with PCGS and NGC on most dates.
