The ugly sister a1799 corroded/ over annealed planchet

Best guess from what I can make out from date placement she is the S-189. Title says it all she is ugly and yes I paid for her but she wasn’t alone and surely not the one I was after matter of fact she sat in a box on the shelf forever till I pulled the box down one day out of boredom. As stated she is very corroded I know I don’t care it’s the rest I’m curious about, such as the over annealed, the die clashes looks to maybe be a flip in there lol. This thing is the mess that keeps on giving which is why she is rarely let out in public.

Agree. I would not let her out in public either. Are you sure she is the correct pronoun?

Date placement? Lol
ROFL man you guys are just wrong, ain’t her fault she ugly she was made that way. Seriously I’m just trying to get an idea how much of that ugly is over cooked from the mint and how much is of it is just corrosion. I ask to learn. You like that Owen Lol I thought it was pretty good myself
Watch it with that name calling edwardjulio I’m not the rioting type lol just a joke people let’s not have a meltdown
Ok but on a serious note am I correct in thinking this coin is mostly a over annealed?
I ask because I had a Lincoln here while back that I believe was but I’m the end I was informed it was corrosion though it looked like someone had placed into a campfire giving the melted appearance geanted not to this extent this was just an example I had laying close
No. That coin is 100% corrosion.
Corroded metal.... The rest is dreams.... Cheers, RickO
well if that article link recently stated that there is no such thing as inactive verdigris was accurate, i postulate, there is no such thing as inactive corrosion.
it is 100% corrosion.
I don't understand how you got the idea of over annealed or any indication of die clashes.

My hat is off to those of you all that are knowledgeable enough to identify this as a s-189. I can’t make out anything more than that it’s a draped bust large cent.
What the date or attribution is was not in question . To me it looked as though it was almost melted when struck so was wondering what had caused it. As for clash ect that comes from the image across her head again trying to learn
Do a quick google search(web search first) for the term "die clash" and see what you can find. See what causes it and what they look like. You should see something that they all have in common and why the statement from above "As for clash ect that comes from the image across her head" does not really make any sense.

ChrisH8291 The image which looks like a portion of a coin from another strike is what I was referring to matter fact the first one runs from the R in Lib to her ponytail while the other impression runs through her face out her pony again
And die clashes are usually quite subtle in the grand scheme of things; they become pretty much invisible, once a coin is this badly corroded.

Correct I was asking about the condition so what is hmm… about it?
So I have a question for you. With said knowledge why in the heck would one be messing around with corroded crap and not trying to cherry pick what you claim to know with better examples. Most variety collectors learn early that worn and damaged coins are near impossible to ID. The number of die markers to correctly identify a variety let alone the die stages are required to make a positive ID. The biggest problem for a new variety collector is to understand that ALL the markers on a present die state must or should be there to make it a known variety. And if they THINK they have made a discovery - they share that coin with an expert in that series and get a professional opinion.
You claim to know so much about your coin of interest - then show us what we are suppose to see rather than what we can't. Show us your knowledge with other non crap coins that you collect, show us you really know your stuff - or stop imagining stuff you know nothing about. End of rant

I suppose the "over annealing"/ fire pit/ dirt bath/ etc moved the legend so it no longer lines up with S-189...
Gotta say this is one of the dumbest posts I have seen on this forum and that is saying a lot.
I’m disabled congestive heart failure so I have 10% heart function. Because of my condition I was forced out of work and on a government check a quarter of what I once made. My ability to earn what I did changed my bills didn’t, so unless you have money to throw my way for something that might impress you. No wait come to think of it I feel no need to try and impress someone I have no need to impress. Know I will impart this bit of wisdom learn to carefully read the posts all the way through I was asking about the condition if it were all corrosion or if maybe it had been over annealed or a combination of the 2. I also was curious about the damage on the head and if it were die clash or something else. Now see if you would have taken the time to read what was posted I wouldn’t have had to waste my time explaining how this works.
Now rant over
Please tell me just what it is that makes this post so dumb? Is it the fact that someone posted a question, one you can’t seem to answer? Dumb is not asking . Dumb is pretending to know something to impress someone. Matter of fact you met my new friend watersport

** Dr said find a hobby relax wow did I pick the wrong one.**
Sorry this hasn’t worked out better for you.
I’ve heard stamps can be very relaxing….as well as inexpensive.
It's not the hobby that's the problem
I suspect you'll have similar issues in any hobby, at least ones that involve collecting something that places a premium on errors or oddities.
Haha 😂 who says it hasn’t worked out hobby isn’t the problem it’s those who think more of their opinion than what could ever be called for it is the rudeness of those who can’t answer a simple $&,’! Question it’s those who I continue wasting my time on trying to belittle me or the coins I own for some useless expectations someone somewhere will actually see what you said as important when I’m actually you simply look well we will just leave it at that no sense in name calling it would only go to show me as someone who lacks the ability to rise above those who are truly not worth my time
Oh if I had your money the things I could accomplish especially in a time when there are so many in need. I surely wouldn’t waste it on something as worthless as the best money could buy. No, see my mother made sure I was raised in the word and I learned early to store my treasure elsewhere. It’s said it will be easier for a 🐫 to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man trying to enter. Thanks but I’ll keep my crap as you would see them. Also like the last gentleman and the one before it is my understanding someone post a coin and question and others will answer in kind with their opinion. So how is it none of you can seem to read the question and answer it? You are correct about one thing it wouldn’t matter if I switched hobbies because there will always be those who think they are better than those of us common people. I promise you this you think but your wrong. Good day sir
Wow I’m starting to get warmed up now got the blood pumping feeling pretty good maybe this will work out after all
In the above screed you have made absurd and unfounded assumptions about me and others here.
Do you ever read other threads? Ones that you haven't started?
You'll find lots of new and inexperienced collectors getting - and receiving- good advice with respect and appreciation. I suspect that your first few posts were handled that way.
Since then, though, you have refused to listen to good advice and feedback. That's why your threads go down hill fast.

There is nothing wrong with collecting low grade coins if that is what fits your budget, most of mine fall into that category. No one will belittle you for that, The problem is with insisting they are all ultra-rarities when all the evidence is against it. Collect what you want and can afford, enjoy them for what they are and learn from them.
Please explain to me where in the thread I have failed to take advice from anyone. Insinuating that my coins are junk and not worth anything isn’t constructive criticism it’s rude and unfounded. As for assumptions of those above to include you I can only make assumptions based on what I’ve been shown and having anyone tell another collector they shouldn’t post because their coins aren’t as good as you or anyone else would like to see is beyond rude and falling into the category of flat out offensive to say the very least. See you made the assumption that I was in a hobby that I couldn’t possibly afford and to that you are partially correct, and I sat partially because yes there are some nicer pieces I would like to have but I love the ones I have already also. Now again I say if those who would be offended by my remarks toward be told to find another hobby or suggested I’m the problem here I say go back and reread the full thread. You see I was clear in what I was asking and why even said this is just a coin I had close to use as an example. To those who started the thread with me giving real answers I thank you it’s what I asked for. To the one who reminded me not to clean my coins I thank you for at least trying give useful advice. To those who I have mentioned otherwise I made it clear date and attribution made no matter with this coin and you failed to even address the questions so no I stand by the things I said because that coin was bought in a group 6 for the purposes of having 2 of neither of them being this coin so it means little to me I just wanted help identifying the problems the coin had instead all ended up with were more problems than the coin so I guess thank you also for whatever you think you did.
Paragraphs are your friend.
Brother that’s all I’m trying to do here just trying to enjoy learn and share but they just won’t let me be. I mean if you asked can anyone make out this RPM would you expect an answer concerning the MM or would you be waiting for the comments to come addressing you, your choice in purchases, or the ability to purchase what was needed to be like others? 2 questions all I asked and I didn’t think this would be that difficult for a group of professionals. As for rare in the past yes I’ve made some overly excited claims at what I had found, (some), a couple of them were just as I said. Since arriving here I have made an effort to post only those I have studied over a period of time making sure to lay it down and come back later mindful of seeing what isn’t there. Take the 1799 NC1 yes it may grade around a G4 this is a coin that should have no problems with attribution yes it will be graded details I have no doubt but this is a coin that has only 8 known survivors. I posted this coin because I can easily show it as being what it is or I wouldn’t have. The 1799 I posted here I never made claim that I could prove anything nor was I asking from anyone concerning a date grade attribution any of it. The one disputed by all again I have gone to great lengths to ensure it was as j said from all I could tell of it and was wanting to know if anyone recognized it or had information on it I even started by saying it’s not a coronet so don’t even say it but they couldn’t help it. What was it in that statement that reassured them I would change my mind then to have one say no coin of that description was ever created, the though was laughable that he should even chime in if he was unsure. Like I said I’m trying you of all should know and by the way awesome advice with the aluminum foil brought out so much detail I couldn’t make out so thank you
There certainly is a lot of senseless jabbering on the Forum, lately.

Trying to learn??
How about learning about paragraphs.
(Does that sound familiar?
).
I am going to give you some advice honestly trying to help. Slow down, learn the basics. You are trying to identify varieties on extremely low grade coins when you have demonstrated that you don't have the basics of identifying the major type. Slow down and learn. You have a couple of draped bust cents that may or may not ever be identifiable, I've got plenty that I just couldn't go any farther than major type. I still get them out occasionally and look for something I may have missed, but so far, they are still unidentified.
Is this still your position, the "date or attribution is not in question"?
It could have been over-annealed after being struck (i.e., in a fire or two for too long).

Yes Joe they have as a matter of fact the thread could have ended at sapyx comment but it would seem there of those who would feel need to hear speak of nothing asked rather than to answer the question posted leading me to point out the obvious
And yes JBk trying to learn. It’s what those of us in the real world do with the understanding “With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
