The first one would be my preference, though I would be happy with the second one as well. Cheers, RickO

They are both nice, but the first one isn’t as worn as the 2nd

I prefer the bottom one, I think. The reverse (1652 side) of the top one appears too dark and splotchy...but that may just be the photo. I won't venture a guess as to the grade of each but I would like to know.

I prefer the bottom because more of the design is visible. The difference in grades is only a point or two, so to me it's not a factor.

Edit to add: XF45 +- on the top, VF35-XF40 on the bottom. These are tough to grade!

It is the 'weight' of the coin :)

A grain is an obsolescent unit of measurement of mass, and in the troy weight, avoirdupois, and Apothecaries' system, equal to exactly 64.798 91 milligrams. It is nominally based upon the mass of a single ideal seed of a cereal
The grain was the legal foundation of traditional English weight systems, and is the only unit that is equal throughout the troy, avoirdupois, and apothecaries' systems of mass. The unit was based on the weight of a single grain of barley, considered equivalent to 1+1⁄3 grains of wheat.
    .
Since the implementation of the international yard and pound agreement of 1 July 1959, the grain or troy grain (symbol: gr) measure has been defined in terms of units of mass in the International System of Units as precisely 64.79891 milligrams. One gram is thus approximately equivalent to 15.43236 grains.
