Lincoln cents. Errors or altered?

Hi Guys,
I would like your opinions on this 195? and 196? Lincoln cents. I almost think they are altered, but I am not certain.

My guess would be a grease filled die. ;)

Definitely looks like struck through grease, I have a similar example, they seem fairly common on the 1950's-60's cents, I've seen probably half a dozen posted on this and other forums over the last few years, interesting but not worth much...
I cant find the 1950's one I have but here are a couple examples of a grease filled die struck coin:
Obviously, your coins are a little more drastic than mine but it's the same thing :)

Couldn't find the original picture I had of the 1950's wheat cent I had so I took a screenshot of it's old Ebay listing, so excuse the poor quality :)

Yep... Looks like grease filled dies as mentioned above.... Not uncommon, good for educational samples. No numismatic premium though. Cheers, RickO

  • Thanks @ricko
