If CAC.....................

Something I just pondered on my way to dinner in Waikiki:
If CAC adds more evaluators and JA adds a second to do final approval of 1/2 of the coins to keep up with demand, would the product and quality suffer? Could they keep their consistency? If not, of course, the value of having a green bean would be compromised.
Thoughts?

Is there a way to know positively this hasn't already happened?

No indication that it has, I would assume word would get out(?).
I'm not sure, but I remember distinctly in the video that was on the forums a bit ago about JA discussing certain CAC coins that I thought there was more than one grading team and finalizer.
Edit: Since this was quoted below I don’t see a reason to remove the above comment, but I was in error as JA has stated there are three graders and one finalizer.

When I saw the thread title I thought this was going to be about If CAC started doing TPG due to all the rumors.

I remember watching "Shark Tank" a few weeks ago when an entrepreneur running a successful one-person business was featured. The reason the Sharks passed was answered if this businessman were to fall ill or pass away, his company would die with him.
I imagine CAC has safeguards in place should eventually (and heaven forbid) any key players running CAC were to no longer be able to do so.

@spacehayduke How much longer will you be in Waikiki?
Oh ….. back on the CAC thoughts 🤔 IMHO personal observations could ever so slightly varies from time to time especially when decided by multiple heads …….. although I only notice the consistency on their beans.
back to Waikiki @spacehayduke 🐬
I would love Chef Christian ordered to amaze you at the Orchids at Halekulani 🌺
I saw the video and didn’t see or hear any indication that there’s more than one grading team or finalizer.
Edited to add: I asked JA and he replied “3 graders And, one finalizer”

When the cac guy passes away, wouldn’t you think the coin market values for cac and non cac coins begin to inch closer together? Coin buyers wouldn’t know which coins had been submitted to cac, and would therefore have to do more due diligence in their coin buying selections.
CAC is over utilized. There are simply too many coins at various grade levels that just do not have spreads that warrant the service. If the service was used as contemplated, I suspect any timing issues would resolve on their own.

Not even one person can maintain a perfect level of consistency over time, much less two people. Honestly there seem to be multiple rumors running around surrounding CAC, I'm not an insider so I have no idea if any are true or not.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
For the past decade there have been all sort of rumors about CAC. Those of who ignored them and utilized it's services have been well rewarded on coins where a sticker matters. Going forward i expect coins where there is a large premium for the cac sticker (i.e old gold, etc) will see the premium grow even larger.
Now this is what you would call a slippery slope....
IMO JA doesn't look at every coin, he has subgraders that toss out non contenders and JA is the final approval on giving the bean so he probably only looks at say 10% or 20% of submitted coins. Not a huge workload for him even if an increase in submissions.
And what do you base this on?
No easy answer. Would anticipate Only he knows if quality suffer. Perhaps he does audits of graders for quality control purposes.
What if cac started their own grading service?
I have seen no evidence that this statement is true.
From an e-mail I got from CAC:
" John grades 450-500 coins a day to keep up with the back log".
First, to answer the original question, it’s a very reasonable assumption that the training of additional staff (if they choose to do this) would be more than adequate, and as such the product and quality would not suffer, and the consistency would be somewhat similar.
On this question, if CAC were to stop stickering coins FOR ANY REASON, I believe the result would be the exact opposite! I believe the current pricing differential of the “fixed number” of CAC’d coins compared to similarly graded non-CAC’s coins would increase, not decrease!

Why should they? They do quite well stickering coins from real grading services.

The reality in all of this should be that the coin matters. Instead of recognizing the coin, the story turns to the plastic and stickers instead of a side by side look at coins within the same series that have the same date and realizing that not all coins at the same grade level are created equal.
I wrote that CAC is over utilized... and it is... especially for common coins. Even some coins that may grade 65 are still common... readily available... and are not condition rarities and never will be. I doubt CAC wants to see more 1879-s through 81-s Morgans in 64 or 65 and likely even in 66. The same can be said for the 82-cc through 84-cc Morgans. The same can be said for the short set Walkers... with the possible exception of a 41-s and 44-s which an exceptional strike/color . The same can be said for 80% of generic gold.
The story is much different at the 67 and higher level- especially for Commems with color and the look that have wild spreads and may not surface with great frequency. The same can be said for better gold with an original flare that remain in older holders that received underserved conservative grades that should not have passed the straight face then but left a negative impact that still effects how No Motto gold and earlier issues are graded.
Some coins have the look... use CAC wisely.
