Dang Boosi you have quite bit of peru
Thanks! That Standing Liberty is an Arequipa 8 and the hardest of the group.
Trying to do a very broad Latin set of crowns. Strong in Chile, weak so far in Mexico. Making progress in Argentina, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
Added to my early Peru 8 Reales collection. It is my first purchase in about 6 months. Next purchase should be sometime in January 2023 hopefully. My goal is to buy one new coin every 4 months.
A rare 1/5 Sol from Peru minted in Arequipa in 1885 under orders of General Caceres to alleviate a severe lack of coinage in the central Andes region following the War of the Pacific.
Mint authorities in Lima found the coinage to be well below specifications, due to which mintage was stopped after a very short run. Examples are rare - 10 to 12 are known.
If you ever want to sell that 1759, you let me know! What grade? MS?
PCGS MS-63. Same coin as the NGC MS-63.
It’s wonderful! There’s not a lot of mint state 2 reales from Peru out there. Best I have is a VF, and I look a lot.
I look regularly at every source I know. I own most of the dates included in the combined TPG population for the 1/2R, 1R, and 2R. Four of the 4R. Most are NGC as I haven't seen many PCGS coins.
In the last year, I have been outbid on four occasions whereas previously, I'd win auctions practically every single time and it's not like my budget is or was that aggressive either.
One of the differences with this coinage versus most others is that it's not an option to buy slightly lower quality. There are a low to very low number of higher quality coins or overwhelmingly dreck. Virtually nothing in between.
Unrecorded 1935 uniface half sol pattern of 25% silver, 10% nickel, 10% zinc, 55% copper (composition # 3).
A full sol is listed as KM-TS4, and another full sol of different percentages (KM-TS5) was sold by Peuss (Germany 2007, auktion 394, lot 1643) therein described as "probably unique". That is all I have been able to find.
