Want to try a carefully dateless early cent's date ?

emeraldATVemeraldATV Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm on the fence with this problem child.

Photo lesson no. 1

This is kinda interesting how it transforms its self.
39 ?

I'm guessing 1929,,, I'm thinking it looks like something under the 2 what what what impossible. Ikr :)
    Thanks for sharing
PS I like seeing whole coins ;) also it took damage so it's one of those things,,, it could be oh wait but it could be :)

    emeraldATVemeraldATV Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

I may have found another reason for the damage.
See the , what could be a die crack , in which the date took a direct hit.

Looks like it took a upwards hit starting under the 2. JMO
We always need to see the whole coin for these reasons :)
Also even if we think we are seeing something,,, unless the big dogs say so it's probably nothing.
    Still awesome

Is that lamentation error under the D?
Yeah it's beat down that's for sure :),,, the supposed die crack or line on the front goes to the top of the number :)

This whole thread is a lamentation.

And I got snookered in by the thread title, thinking it was going to be about a heavily worn large cent ….

My first thought was actually 1939, but then I saw images of the coin at an angle and I'm thinking more '29...

..but I also thought this was going to be about a dateless Large Cent and I'd be able to use my brand new book!

Looked like a '39 to me as well... further pictures also make a '29 possible. But, damaged... so moving along... Cheers, RickO

It's a dozen of us with nothing better to do than look at pictures of a beat up old 90 year old cent, that won't buy anything on its own.

Yeah funny stuff,,,, when members ask about coins or if I see something on a coin then somehow this happens,,

Hmmm granted yes the coin is beat down and most likely worthless ($5 starting bid album filler of unique coins) unless something was identified on it. JMO
    Lol yeah it's funny
PS also anything I might see I'm just pointing it out,,, I'm no expert and in no way shape or form I'm I making expert definitive calls,,, just opinions from a fellow collector :) also in my opinion it is in fact a 1929,,, look at the base of the 2 and that point, which I'm pretty sure the 3 wouldn't have.

I want to be buddies with everyone,,, even if I make wild opinions that go against the grain.
I wish things were different :)
I mean I have no hard feelings towards anyone,,, I'd only hope I haven't done things wrong with others to where they feel they have to block me :(
I'm still here :) and I hope I can repair any DMG I might've gained,, again sorry all I don't try to disrespect anyone or insult them,,, you all know 10x's what I know,, I'd never try to shame you all,,, ok well maybe on how you treat others,,,, but that's just me.
Thanks again for having me :)

I should've said anything I might have done to others by being a rebel.
I guess only time will tell, I want everyone to know I'm not out to offend anyone or disrespect anyone,, life is way too short to live like that.
I'm not against your opinions either and if yours happens to be against me in general I'm still not against you.
PS a spelling correction can be corrected by an edit 🤣 just like I did to add this PS

Rather poor comparisons using these pixilated photos. I first thought it was a 2, but after comparing the upper loop and bottom I’ve changed my mind. It looks more like a 3.

Yeah in that pic it looks big time like a 3,, then this one,,, yeah that damage,,, also the base does seem to curl a little.
If you get rid of the S under the 2 yes all day long this is a 3,,,I mean the outline of the S and the remainder what's under. JMO
