SS Central America shipwreck coin

YorkshiremanYorkshireman Posts: 4,556 ✭✭✭✭✭

I recently acquired an 1857-S SS Central America $20. There is no certification number of the label.
Why was a number not given? What is the story there?

    Just found this thread:

Looks like you have to contact PCGS and they'll give it to you.

I see many other SS Central America coins with no cert number being sold by reputable dealers.

    Thanks, folks!
I sent an email to PCGS asking for the number.

From another thread on the subject...

"Just got off the phone with PCGS. You have to call or email them the SSCA number and they will then provide you the certification number via their SSCA database. The representative was not aware of any means for the public to access the database to look the Certs up on their own without the assistance of PCGS. Hope this helps for future reference."

I have one as well. Just contact PCGS and they will inform you of your serial number. I emailed them front and back photos of the full slab and they were prompt in replying with the serial number. You have a nice-looking coin.
