Here is a 1916 doubled die obverse buffalo nickel graded GOOD details by Anacs . What details grade would you give this coin?
The acid restoration on this piece has been done well.

I'd have to drop acid before I even consider that coin.

    Not for me.

It was probably a Fair or AG before it was acid treated, and a shame it was since this variety can be easily discerned even with no date. I don't know if something like this even can be given a details grade since all of its details are artificial. The entire coin has been effectively altered by acid.

Looks better than Good 4 details. It will be a welcomed addition for a collector on a limited budget who can't afford a better example of this rare coin.

I bet that coin has lost more than 10% of it's weight. That sucker sat in an acid bath for awhile. That's a coin that should be graded without a grade assigned. Acid treated FD coin IMHO is what the holder should say. Ya know the FBI can bring up a serial number that's been filed off a gun with acid.....just sayin!

If I found it in a lot buy of old buffs, I would certainly keep it. I would not purchase it individually. Cheers, RickO

I would have much rather had it before it was treated.

    Next question...

If that coin was to be acid-treated, would people prefer the whole thing be treated or just the date? 🤔

VG10 details. Very few collectors would want this coin, but probably very few would refuse it as a gift. JMO
