Interesting Insert & Great Color On This Morgan Dollar!

wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,982 ✭✭✭✭✭

My son Justin got in a collection of PCGS Peace and Morgan dollars and this one caught my eye both because of the limited edition (round 2) insert I had never seen before and the great job he did capturing the color on this coin that was never tru-viewed. I thought I would share the pic Justin snapped of this Morgan. Justin snaps so many pics of modern “brilliant” coins, I was impressed with his work on this “classic” color coin. Cheers!

Nice looking coin. Never seen a PCGS holder that look looks like that one.

The coin looks great in his photo but the slab just does not look that natural in his photo. Here is an old Heritage photo. Justin got those colors to pop more.

Coin isn't lit that well. Lotta color in front of the face that's hidden by the subpar lighting.

Looks over-exposed to enhance the color.

The reverse logo which states "PCGS Gen 1.0" is definitely wrong and from the corner tabs it looks like a 6.0 or something but the font doesn't fit that.

Maywood: I’m not following this point? Can you please explain further.

Beautiful coin. I’ve been struggling with the lighting on my pics too. I’m getting close to optimal with the addition of a third light. Now if I can just get the positioning correct. A lot of finagling, but almost there.

I think he means that it doesn't look like a first generation slab (rattler) which I agree with.

It's a special label that submitters could choose.

    Here's the PCGS text:
"For a limited time, collectors can holder their coins with special, throwback versions of the first four generations of PCGS holders. These classic designs are a tribute to the early generations of PCGS holders; holders that have become popular amongst collectors for their appearance, and in certain instances, rarity."

Ironically, thus the rarity of this holder as few collectors sought it out when offered.

Yes… hence my reference in the original post to “round 2”.

to be able to capture toning like that through the slab with no glare (i don't see any) with both the slab and coin being sharp, is QUITE a feat. congratz to him, no doubt.

I accidently left a slab on a window sill, and my wife closed the blinds so I forgot about it for a few months. The sun turned the color of the insert to yellow, weird in a cool way.
