    1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent

Well you see, I think the '09-S VDB is the most popular. Is that the one I prefer myself? No, I personally think that the Standing Liberty deserves that spot. It's got a better history, and a much lower mintage and current survival.

I picked the 1909-S VDB cent since more people collect Lincoln cents than the other two denominations but the 1916-D dime is a close second.

I would have to say the 1909 S VDB
The Lincoln cent has been one of the most collected US coins for many years.

The Standing Liberty Quarter is One of the top coin designs the mint has ever created.

The SVDB wins the popularity contest. Part of the deal is that there are enough to both satisfy and stoke demand. Every collector knows it and tons of non-collectors know of it.
    My favorite is the Merc.

I went with the 1909 SVDB Lincoln penny because I think most people started collecting coins with the Lincoln penny book. I know I did. It would be interesting to know at what age people did start collecting coins, and what their first book may have been. (perhaps another poll?). Personally I think all three are great coins, and unfortunately, I have none of them. if someone has one of these coins that they would like to find a good home for, I will volunteer.

My thought exactly. If I’m choosing for me, the 1916 Quarter hands down!

I think a lot of collectors get started on Lincoln Cents, so there's recognition of the "key-date" in the series that makes it "popular". That said, popularity doesn't translate into rarity or a coin being difficult to find. I can find a bunch of '09-S VDB's at any small show but would have a much more difficult time finding a decent 1916-D Merc Dime, or a 1916 SLQ (toughest of the three... IMHO).

I voted by which I think is the most attractive coin - my favorite of the three. But if I had to pick one for my collection I would pick the quarter and if I had to pick the most popular amongst the collecting world at large it's gotta be the 1909. So...all three?

As scarce as the 1916 quarter is, there are a lot of other business strike coins that are much rarer and that are cheaper to buy. Yeah, I know, those series aren’t collected as much, hence the price difference, but to me it’s much more satisfying to own an 1857 Dahlonega gold dollar for less money. B)

Although not my personal favorite of the three (I like the Merc), I would have to say the cent would be the most popular. Basing that on years of the forums, watching auctions and when I used to attend shows. Cheers, RickO

Having bought and sold multiple examples of all three, I can say that my personal experience is this: The one that both sells the quickest and brings the most profit is the quarter.

As I voted, of the 3 I would feel the 09SVDB would be the most sought after. Then, that's just my opinion.

Just checked some prices - the dime and quarter are pretty close, and are multiples (5x?) of the price of the cent.
I didn’t check pops, but there are probably way more than 5 times the number of cents than the other two, which tells me that even though it’s more attainable (price and quantity) it’s still very popular.

I'll be darned. Wouldn't have thought that given the real low mintage (and subsequent availability).

Most popular is the 09 S vdb followed by the 16 D then the 16 slq. I have the first 2 but would give them both up for a 16 slq.

The S-VDB is the most popular but the 16-D is the one I would choose out of all three of them

Probably the cent. But I like the dime, as always liked the design more. Wonder which one of the 3 dealers deem the most popular.

    I own both the 1909 S VDB and the 1916 D Merc.

I think the 1909 S VDB is the most recognized and famous coin. At least among the older crowd. I always wanted one as a young collector.

But of the three, I would rather own the 1916 SLQ. Reason why? It’s worth a fortune!
