Hey Everyone... I was watching an auction for this piece. It grabbed my attention for the number of bidders... 6, and the final price: $145. Is there some historical significance for this particular stamp?

    I seem to recall several of these in one Stacks auction a few years ago, but can't find it..
    Here are a couple of auction results though, including QDB's seated 25c.

    Interesting! Based on the population report from the link, there aren't too many of these and the one from the auction seemed to be in pretty good condition... considering the "damage" and all...

    It does seem important to make sure that any given piece up for sale is in fact genuine, as per the linked article.
    Without doing an overlay, the op piece looks right to me, but if one seems to be going especially cheap it might be bogus.

    Pretty cool, that photo of the stamping tool!
    I wonder how that was located and what's the story there??
