Self Slabbing is growing

First one of these I've ran across. This company does not exist as far as Google is concerned. They say they are PCCG, Professional Coin Display Slab and Professional Products Decade Service. All three names are on the slab, yet google cannot find anything about any of them, that I could find. they have went to a lot of expense copying NGC's holder and then put counterfit coins in them and grade them and call them replicas. All is probably quite legal, as they are not trying to pass them as legitimate coins. Wow. Counterfeitiing has became a legit business. Never seen a company, though, that did not want to advertize their name.

PCCB makes slabs, they don't slab coins. Anyone can buy these slabs and put whatever they want into them.

They get around the legality by stating that the coin is a replica. But the scary thought is what the buyer does with it after they get it.

Why the hell would anyone choose to self-slab with white prongs? :s

I have purchased slabs (not these) to slab some of my coins that I like, but not worth sending to a TPG. Good protection and the details can be noted on the tag. Cheers, RickO

I came across PCCB a year or two back on Amazon while looking up plastic slab boxes. I believe the listing intentionally slipped NGC and PCGS into the description for search & browse reasons.
Started seeing them at a local (monthly) coin show I go to as one fairly new vendor only has self slabbed coins and everything he has looks like a dressed up problem coin. Most likely cracked out "Details". Not to say that can't be the case with a coin in a 2x2 flip but those who really don't know better are more likely to be fooled by these slabs.
Not to sound like a hypocrite but for full disclosure and honesty, I have an old Morgan my grandmother gave me that I put in a Lighthouse slab so I can keep it with my other slabbed coins. No intention of selling it but it not worth having professionally graded. Sentimental reasons.

Not sure why you would want a replica for a coin collection ....

Not even for a 1804 Dollar?
I wouldn't myself because all my coins are PCGS slabed, but for all those who have albums they might want to fill that hole with a replica

I am not a self slabbing fan. Either coin in TPG slab or 2x2 or original mint pkg.

Particularly if they crack the slab and try to sell it as a real coin.

They do NOT get around the law by calling it a "replica". To be legal, the Hobby Protection Act states that the item must have the word "copy" on it. Without this, they are just illegal counterfeits no matter what the seller calls them.

I'm not sure why anyone cares to complete a date set. But people do, and the holes bother them.

I have a fair number of raw 1 oz bullion coins in Tubes. I initially thought that I would buy the slabs to house the coins rather than leave them in tubes. Now, I'm thinking that whoever saw a self slabbed 1 oz gold coin would be certain it's a fake.
