I am attempting to interpret the seller's photos on these two Morgan dollars

I am usually pretty good at determining what a coin will probably look like based on photos offered by eBay sellers.
Sometimes though a seller who doesn't deal in coins yet rather other items either uses a scanner or photographs the coin in a way
that makes it more difficult.
Here is an example of such a seller. (He had 15,000+ items for sale and only five listings under coins.)
Perhaps you can help?
First Morgan:
Second Morgan:
I did lighten the two coins a bit and it does help:

The darker protected areas lead me to believe the reverse of this coin is heavily hairlined or lightly circulated

I would probably stay away from both, but if they are cheap enough it might be OK to gamble on them.
Collector, occasional seller
It’s a common date so they shouldn’t be expensive. What’s the likelihood of them DMPL? It might be a good idea to find out.
those images are wretched. what do the other items look like? if the other items are well imaged, i would question what happened here. perhaps even ask the seller for better images, if it looks like that is a legitimate option.
the same thing that makes these common which is bad is also good because the pl/dmpl also are readily available and if bought right, could be a nice purchase(s).
Here is an example of his listings:
It appears he does use a scanner.

Those are horrible, stay away!
I saw in the news they sold a Tom Brady card for a record price (around $3 million IIRC). They have a ways to go in coins, though, and need to move on from 1990s scanning technology. More fun for ebay gamblers like me, though.
So did you win them braddick? I follow that seller, so surprised I missed those
Wow! I didn't think it was possible... someone with worse photography skills than me!

there is some irony to poor quality scanned images. among the MANY things discussed on this forum since it's inception, scanning, quality, setting etc is on the list. it seems, generally, scanners are NOT set to the highest quality setting by default, whereas smartphones usually are. SO, when we dug into it and managed to wiggle our way through settings on some scanners, people did find they were able to increase quality quite a bit and some of the scans were pretty impressive BUT did require some research into each models settings and how to dig through them and then of course, do some test runs. this was many years ago, so i would bet even cheap scanners these days probably come with decent average quality and i'm sure youtube has some great comp videos for such.
67+ DMPL with wild monster obverse eor toning 😃
I did.
I look forward to their arrival. I'll post photos of them then.

The scans make them look "AT", but I predict in hand they will be NT winners!
.
i am hoping for the same!
it baffles me why the obv and rev images are so different from each other but the obv match the obv and rev match rev in quality.
for anyone wanting to increase success buying from scanned images may do well to buy a couple scanners (should be fairly reasonable money-wise) and scan up a small database of images in and out of holders for toners/pl/circ vs unc etc.
I would completely pass those coins by, based on the pictures. Of course I am not a dealer, just a collector, and not one for gambling on such items. It will be interesting to see what they look like once in hand. Cheers, RickO
Looking forward to seeing better photos of these two coins after braddick receives them.
The photos of the obverses of the two coins are interesting. They both show fields and the faces and necks of Lady Liberty that have little to no marks, dings or other impairments. Hopefully for braddick what is shown in the obverse photos will turn out to be the reality of the two coins in hand.
I believe they will look pretty darn nice! Likely PL
They might be nice. They might be terrible.
You must enjoy gambling more than I do. Good luck.
Although I rarely return a coin on eBay, if these were simply monstrously poor coins, I would.

This sellers idea of Trade Dollars is somewhat unique.

must've been removed?
Photos too crummy for me - pass
It's a shot in the dark....literally.
Good luck though.
I was bidding on both but didn't go all-in as I wasn't sure how to interpret the photos. There is a chance both will have monster color and pl surfaces. However, something told me they were more likely to be AT and/or cleaned (like someone pointed out earlier in this thread). I thought someone would throw in a large snipe and they would sell for (relatively) strong money since people like to gamble on things like this but the final prices weren't ridiculous (so even if they turn out bad, the tuition won't be that expensive).
I don't see where you'd have grounds too, almost even if they weren't authentic. I mean from those pictures you could be getting just about anything and should have bid accordingly.
If the coins were counterfeit a return would be acceptable simply based on the title of the auction and the description even if you are so inclined to discount the photos.
