1970 D large date penny floating roof

I found a 1970 D looks like a large date. It appears to have a floating roof. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZdV3E9YLjjQTDcza7

1970-S SMALL DATE business strike versions are the one to look for. And 1969 & 1970 Lincoln Memorial cents are just too common with the "floating roof" from overpolishing the dies.

There are no small or large date varieties for a 1970-D cent, so yours isn't a large date, it just "is".

I agree it appears to have a floating roof.

What do you figure the value of this coin is?

  • I have no idea the value. I found it when looking through my coin rolls last night and today. I also did find a 1969 S with a floating roof today not in great shape but interesting. You are so right about the large and small date, but that is the 1970 S. I thought it was a neat find.

The floating roof anomaly is actually fairly common.... so not much of a premium, if any. Cheers, RickO
