Who here has a Woody?

I've been trying to search what a woodie might go for, but I guess there's only a small market for them. Mostly I see in the 5.00 range. Is there some mystery on these that I'm missing? It's also funny there's no database for different kinds anywhere.

Some collectors like them.... I have not seen a big demand though. Cheers, RickO
Not so much since I've gotten older.
Show a photo obverse and reverse of what you have and opinions might be given.

Don't really care for Woodies, but I do have one.

Wood grain cents (both Lincoln and IHC) can have a very pleasing look, the effect is due to improper mixing of the metals used to make the blanks. There is no need for these to be broken out as a separate class or color designation, depending on the coin most are considered as red brown or brown. While some are attractive many are not, as a general rule woodies have not been favored by most copper collectors and seldom bring any numismatic premium.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
That is a woody, but not a pleasing one(in my opinion). I collected them for years and do like most of them. This one seems to be confused as to which color and direction the woodgrain is going, making it hard to look at to me. I've had quite a few that I would love to get back, but so what, many others have a similar problem. Thank you for the photos. Always provide photos obv and rev when you have a coin question. Welcome to the forum.

Never waste a woodie.

Now I like that woodgrain look. Sorry you do not.

I do like Beavers on my Woody though...

trick question.
This '47 Mercury brought a record price several years ago.
And prices on classic cars have been booming, just like coins, real estate, what have you. At some point people will figure out that it's not really all these assets gaining value, it's just the dollar losing value.
Just to let you know that is probably just some kind of staining as large Cents were not made from an alloy metal - they were 100% copper.

Would you consider this a woody?
Here's a red uncirculated one. Well, red and gold anyway:

I see your point. I wonder why it wasn't noted on Bob's card...

I'm slowly working on a set of Lincolns cents, all PCGS MS63-65, and all nicely wood-grained. Damn hard to locate nice ones, but tons of fun.

Bit of a bonus there on the cent what with the die chip on the "B", "9", and the "San Jose" 5/S connection.
Being this is a major key coin, does the wood effect enhance or inhibit it's resale value?

I know it's not supposed to happen but I have multiple large cents that look like woodys... here are a couple that I would classify as woodys... no?
