USPS service??

I know this is a common grip but I just don’t understand it at times. Coin shipped on May 11. Reaches Saint Rose , LA facility on May, 12. Stays there until it finally reaches the Memphis, TN facility on 5-21. It’s still there. Estimated delivery to me was 5-14. Contacted my PO for help. They can’t figure it out 🥵🥵

Call the Memphis location where it's at and ask them. IIRC it was at the Memphis location where I had my only lost package. Never did get found.

I had a coin going certified from CA to TN. It got stuck at the local distribution center (in CA) for three weeks. Had to hector the local PO to reach out to contacts there and file a USPS lost item ticket through usps.com and eventually it got delivered (in tact!) after a month. It gave me hope for the future that it ended well but also a ton of anxiety. Stay on top of it but don't expect anything quickly.

With the USPS it's best to go in expecting the worst. That way, when things go good the Postal Service looks like a good place to ship things.

I'd give it until about 6/20 to consider it lost, as it might still turn up well after 30 days.

How was it shipped? Registered? Priority? First class with tracking?

I've noticed a change lately in USPS service. One package sent to wrong PO and sat several days, another taking 11 days to go what would be about a two hour drive, latest one with five scans in Memphis and four scans in St. Louis... I'm a little nervous about that one since it is an expensive item. I am not sure what the deal is recently.

Memphis is not a good place to be, either for a package or in person.

You want to see bad.. Look at this. 15 days from MA to Kearny and 9 days in Kearny.

COVID gave the USPS (and a lot of other folks) a convenient excuse to drop their level of service a few notches. I mailed a registered package last week and it sat in my local PO for a 9 days before finally moving to the slightly larger office 40 miles away. Now, at, least, it’s slowly moving through the system. I’m quite sure they tucked it away in the safe & forgot about it.

I had one go from FL to NJ, back to FL and back to NJ...with stops in between of course. What was supposed to be 4 days took 2 weeks.
A couple of other purchases that involved FL too and sitting for long periods all at the Ybor City USPS distribution center. Don't know what goes on there but for me that's the single worst location.
On positive note, have to say coins from GC arrive on the east coast pretty quickly. I always have them in hand Thursday morning by 10:30-11:00 (without upgrading the service).
As for @pocketpiececommems I feel for you. Something is wrong there and I hope they get it straightened out. Seriously wishing you good luck.

The last time I shipped registered insured from Utah to CA (last week) It took 5 days to get to the destination. The other time I did it (1month ago) it took 9 days, same everything.
Why the difference? Who knows, but I lose sleep everytime I mail something out.

So are Scottsdale (airport) and Federal Way IME.
I think the USPS has a lot of "black holes" lately.

At least we now have tracking for most items.
I had a mail piece stay in Scottsdale for 30 days.
Lesson? Never give up hope. Well, almost never.

Would you believe just today the USPS delivered my mail to who knows where? Tracking says "Delivered ". Luckily this one is very inexpensive but this isn't the first time and on the other occasions the unknown recipient never returned my mail.

One of the postal workers who works my route will scan in packages at the end of his shift that he couldnt deliver that day that were shipped priority and say they are delivered and signed for so it looks like they were on time. Then the next day he'll deliver them. Its infuriating.

My USPS delivery is all over the place literally. Sometimes they will deliver a Registered pkg. with nobody there to sign, other times won't deliver a simple 8.95 envelope.

I had one of my most surprising Registered Mail experiences lately. I shipped a Registered Package from Portland, OR to CAC on Thursday May 26th and it was delivered on Tuesday May 31st. I figured with a 3 day holiday weekend, it would be sometime in June.

My most amazing experience was an eBay purchase that went from Florida to Washington State in 1 day. I was shipped one day and delivered the next. The kicker, it was a basic First Class package.

I have had my share of nightmare deliveries, but I want to focus on the positive.

The only thing consistent with the Post Office is their inconsistency.

My best situation was a package sent First Class from New Mexico to Massachsetts and it arrived in 2 days.

My worst was a parcel post package sent from Michigan to Massachsetts and took a month.

If international is included I once had a package from Canada take 6 months to arrive. It was sent regular First Class International but the issue was it sat in customs for about 5 of those months!

These above situations all happened over ten years ago.

Best international was a letter from the Netherlands being sent on a Saturday and arriving Monday. That was a shocker! This was a few years ago.

Maybe more recently. Last month @JWP and I just went through a terrible time trying to extricate a lost package from there...lost for several weeks.

Someone really screwed up by getting it delivered that fast. They will probably get a reprimand. :)
