1975 Chervonetz. Few tics from Gem. As long as gold is in the same ballpark and still sealed in holder you can send it back minus postage. If gold goes out of the ballpark going up you can still return 😁 $589 shipped priority

I want to trade silver for current Swiss Franc currency or newer Series 2 Euro notes (5, 10, 20 and 50s) for an upcoming trip. I've got the 1 oz rounds below and several 1 oz BU ASEs (2010, 2013, 2014) that I'm willing to trade.

PM me if interested. Plenty of board refs available on request.

SOLD Price includes 1st class USPS delivery. PayPal preferred, check or MO okay too.

Moderns are uncirculated with light toning and excellent luster. Both are 0.720 fine silver. The 100 peso piece is 27.8 grams with 20 grams of pure silver. The 25 peso Olympic piece is 22.5 grams with 16.2 grams of pure silver. The 1806 2 reales is well worn but definitely genuine. It's 0.896 fine silver.

I'm not sure this is the correct place to put this thought, if not, let me know and I will change it. (if I can figure out how to do that,).

I've been thinking about purchasing some silver bars, 10 ounce and perhaps even 100 oz., but have not yet pulled the trigger. My question is that there are obviously numerous providers of these bars such as silvertowne. Engelhard, Scottsdale, RCM, and no doubt many more. Most of these bars and seem to be stamped with 10 ounces, .999 fine or similar designations. Some have serial numbers on them, some do not.so my questions are as follows:

    1. How reliable are these various manufacturers in terms of their purity and actual weight?
    2. Are some more accurate than others? If so, which?
    3. Do any of these have a reputation for being less than reliable? If so, which?
    4. what must one be careful of when buying these bars. I suspect there are probably ways to remove a portion of the bar and replace it with some other material which might be very difficult to determine. Any other things to look out for?
    5. how much over spot is reasonable?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • derrybderryb Posts: 36,823 ✭✭✭✭✭

Stamped weights are reliable unless it is a homemade bar

Stick with name brands and you will get what you pay for. Higher premiums (price over spot) indicate more demand, usually because of perceived quality. In reality silver is silver.

Reasonable price is relative. What people are paying is reality. I buy my PMs from Bullion Exchanges where I find the best prices and great service. Pay by wire to get best price. I prefer the RCM and Asahi 10 oz silver bars and the gold buffalos and eagles.

I hope I'm doing this right. This hasn't been a good first week here. But I'm going to try to stay for a second week. I want to buy a 10 oz silver bar. $280. Generic. Local retail in Foley, Alabama. Out the door price.
It sounds fair. Is it to you?

  • PerryHallPerryHall Posts: 46,137 ✭✭✭✭✭

@GulfRasta Most BST transactions involve the buyer sending payment and the seller mailing the coin, bar, etc to the buyer after payment clears. While it's possible there is a forum member in Foley, AL that has a 10 oz bar they want to sell, it's unlikely. @Yorkshireman just bought some silver bars and he is a reliable seller who I can vouch for. You may want to reach out to him to see what he has available.

@Glen2022.... Silvertowne, Engelhard, Scottsdale are all reputable dealers and you can trust them for weight and purity. Be very careful of hand poured bars from private sellers. Premiums over spot will vary, shop around. Cheers, RickO
